Spur Gear/Clutch Bell Maintenance
The spur gears are considered consumable items and will require replacement from time to time to ensure maximum performance from your model. The clutch bell is made of steel and should last much longer, but it too will need replacing down the road. Dirt and small rocks are the gears worst enemies. Do not run the model on dirt, gravel or overly dusty/dirty surfaces.
Visually inspect the gears after every run for signs of wear or small debris lodged between the spur gear's tooth profile. Small stones can be removed from the gears with a hobby knife, but if the spur gears show signs of excessive wear replace the gears before continuing to run the model. Damaged or incorrectly adjusted gears can also bind up the drive train, which could cause the engine to run excessively hot. It is also important that you periodically check the engine mounting screws and gear mesh.
