GPS Speed Telemetry Module
The Traxxas TQi™ 2.4 GHz radio system is reliable and easy to use; however, when paired with the Traxxas Link™ App, it opens the door to a wide range of functions that allow you to tune your vehicle to your personal driving style.
The Traxxas Link App and TQi radio system give you the ability to use telemetry. We’re going to look at one specific function—the ability to track speed. We are The Fastest Name in Radio Control, but there are times that it’s nice to know how fast you’re actually going.
Using the Traxxas Telemetry GPS Module, you can get accurate real-time feedback of your Traxxas model’s actual speed. This isn’t a scale mile per hour. We’re talking about averaging around highway speeds! Having actual data is better and more reliable than having to guesstimate how fast your model is going.

Here are some quick features about the Traxxas Telemetry GPS Module:
- The GPS module uses Global Positioning Satellites to give you accurate, real-time speed.
- The speed readout is not affected by your model’s gear ration or tire size.
- The GPS module is user friendly; quick and easy plug-and-play installation with no programming required.
- The GPS module is automatically configured by the Traxxas Link App.
- When installed in the Telemetry Expander, the GPS module is safe from wet conditions. You can run through water, mud, and snow with confidence.

- Telemetry Expander (6550X)
- Traxxas Link app (download for free)
- TQi transmitter with Traxxas Link Wireless Module (6511)
Follow the instructions that are included with the GPS Module (6551X), Telemetry Expander (6650X), and Traxxas Link Wireless Module for installation (some vehicles have factory-installed telemetry sensors with a Traxxas Link Wireless Module already installed in the transmitter). Additionally, some models may require the use of a Telemetry Expander mount. Also, as a quick note, be sure to install the communication cable properly between the receiver and Telemetry Expander.
Once everything is installed correctly, power on the transmitter and receiver. Open the Traxxas Link app and connect it with the transmitter and receiver. If the app, transmitter, receiver, or GPS Module need updates, simply follow the onscreen prompts in the app.
When the update(s) have completed, you should see solid green LEDs on the receiver and Telemetry Expander. The transmitter and vehicle icons at the top of the app screen should also be green. If you are indoors, the satellite icon may be red because the GPS Module has been located but the Module is not transmitting any information.
Now, it’s time to head outside. With everything powered on and linked together, let the GPS connect to the satellite. This may take a few minutes the first time. Once the transmitter, vehicle, and satellite icons are all green, it’s time to have some fun. Now you can know exactly how fast your model is going and claim those bragging rights.
