The Build
The two keys to this build was simple: pull off the look of the full size car, and pull wheelies at will. The (58076-21) Slash VXL OBA was selected as a base, thanks to its powerful VXL power system, rear-favoring weight bias, and the availability of an aftermarket body that closely replicated the 55.
Traxxas Funny Car rear tires helped to achieve the drag race feel, while Bandit dished front wheels completed the look up front. Aftermarket 14 mm hex/5 mm axle adapters required for Funny Car rear tires.
Traxxas (2750R) Bandit arms, (2441) camber links, and (1651) axles were used to narrow the rear track and keep the tires snug inside the rear quarter panels.
Up front, to widen the stance and adjust the wheelbase appropriately for the wheel openings, Traxxas (5531) Jato suspension arms were modified to accept the Slash shock setup, and longer (5539) camber and (5538) toe-links were installed.
To keep the car functional and durable, a (5835) Slash bumper was cut down to protect the front end in impacts.
No Blasphemi replica would be complete without some V8 rumble. The Traxxas OBA system was installed into the 55 body.
The body was masked and painted on the inside like a typical paint job, including the lights and signature gold grille. To achieve the hot rod black look, a matte finish spray was applied. Capping it off, a scoop was fabbed from lexan for the hood, and the top of the blower was replicated with a decal.
The Blasphemi and Traxxas lettering use gold and silver engine turned vinyl, and printed decals were made to capture the sponsor stickers from the full-size car on the back.
Out back, a (3678) Traxxas wheelie bar with (5186A) rubber tires and aluminum wheels keeps the back end planted and stable during hard launches.
RC Blasphemi has proven to be a hit just like it’s larger, louder sibling. With coverage on Roadkill’s official website, mentions on Mike’s podcast the Kibbe and Finnegan show, and a load of shares across social media, the car is definitely getting around.
