You can use the tool kit that comes with the UDR to install the accessories in this article, but upgrading your tools can be just as important as your vehicle modifications. Black Chrome Tube Chassis
One of the hottest upgrades for the Unlimited Desert Racer has to be the black chrome chassis. Nearly every part from the tube frame to the suspension arms and even the rear axle are available in satin black chrome. It really sets your ride apart to give it a unique and dramatic look. Don’t worry, there may be a lot of parts, but they are easy to install and fit just like the originals.
Blue Aluminum Side Panels
Once you finish swapping out the stock chassis for the beautiful black chrome, it's time to add some vibrant color. These aluminum chassis panels look stunning and come in blue, silver, or red. They really stand out against the contrasting black chrome and we can't think of a better looking upgrade.
Window Nets
The Unlimited Desert Racer drives and handles like a Trophy Truck because it’s built like one. The Traxxas Pro Scale® philosophy blends extreme power and durability with maximum scale realism, both in form and function. These window nets are the last word in scale detail. Install an action camera in your UDR and you'll have a hard time telling if the footage came from an RC or a real 800 hp desert truck.
Blue Aluminum Trailing Arms
As an integral part of the Desert Racer’s sophisticated suspension, the rear trailing arms absorb a lot of punishment when you’re sending it to the ragged limit. These trailing arms are beautifully machined from high-strength aluminum and brilliantly anodized in either black, blue, or red. For the ultimate in strength and show-stopping looks, add the matching aluminum upper links to complete the ensemble.
High-Torque 400 Red Servo
The High-Torque 400 Red servo is a real powerhouse, delivering 400 oz.-in. of torque—that’s more than three times the torque of the standard 2075 servo. A brushless motor and metal gears make it super-responsive and extra rugged. When you’re storming across the desert floor at 50+mph you want maximum steering authority and the High-Torque 400 Red servo delivers it in spades.
Led Lighting Kit
Although shown as an optional accessory in this build video, the LED lighting kit now comes as standard equipment on all UDRs. The light kit’s High Voltage Amplifier packs enough muscle to efficiently power the 204 individual LEDs while minimizing losses from excessive current and heat. The tightly regulated output provides stable lighting performance, without flickering or dimming as the battery voltage changes. To further enhance scale realism, the smart brake lights work when brakes are applied in both forward and reverse directions.
