TRX-4 Pro Scale Lighting Guide
How to Choose the Perfect Lighting System for your TRX-4
The Traxxas Pro Scale® Advanced Lighting Control System is the fully integrated solution for equipping your TRX-4 with working lights. The Pro Scale system duplicates the appearance and functionality of the "real thing" with bright, waterproof LED lights. In this article, we’ll discuss how the Pro Scale Lighting system works and what you’ll need to add it to your model. If you already have Pro Scale Lighting in your TRX-4 check our our next article about how to install additional accessories and operate your system using the Traxxas Link App. Let’s get into it!

TRX-4 Pro Scale Lighting System Components
Here’s a breakdown of the components in a complete Pro Scale Lighting system. Depending on your model, you may not need an accessory LED set or Installation Kit to give your truck the Pro Scale treatment—see the chart below.
Power Module (included with the 6591 TRX-4 Pro Scale Lighting System)
The Power Module mounts on the chassis and plugs into the speed control to power the Pro Scale Lighting system. The Power Module can also be powered directly from the model’s battery (maximum 12.6V) using the 6549 Power Tap (sold separately).

Distribution Block (included with the 6591 TRX-4 Pro Scale Lighting System)
The Distribution Block mounts in the body and is the hub for all the LEDs that equip the Pro Scale Lighting System. The Distribution Block connects to the Power Module via a reinforced breakaway cable that simply pops off the Power Module should the body come loose in a crash. There are no fine wires to fuss with when removing and installing the body, just one large easy-to-handle plug.

LED Light Kit
If your model does not have factory-installed LEDs, the LED Light Kit specified for your model will equip it with most or all of the LEDs required for a complete Pro Scale Lighting installation.

Installation Kit
Full Pro Scale Lighting capability includes high- and low-beam headlights, turn signals, brake lights, and reversing lights. If your model’s LED light kit does not include all the LEDs required for these functions, the Installation Kit will complete your model with the required LEDs as well as any additional brackets, hardware, and adapters required to install them.

Operating the Pro Scale Lighting System: MODE and SIGNAL
If your TRX-4 is equipped with the TQi radio system and Traxxas Link Wireless Module, you can control and configure the Pro Scale Lighting system using the free Traxxas Link app—but they aren’t required for basic operation. The lighting system can be controlled directly at the Power Module using the MODE and SIGNAL buttons.
Mode
When you power up the Pro Scale Lighting system, or truck for some models, the daytime running lights will come on. Clicking the MODE button once will activate the Low beams, clicking it again will turn on the High beams, and another click will take you back to just the daytime lights. Just keep clicking the MODE button to cycle through daytime, Low beams, and High beams.

Signal
Use the SIGNAL button to operate the turn signal LEDs. Click the button to activate the signals as hazard lights and click again to turn the hazards off. A quick double-click of the SIGNAL button will enable turn signal control via the transmitter, and another double-click will disable the turn signals.

Operating the Turn Signals, Brake Lights, and Reverse Lights
When you drive a full-size car, you don’t think about operating the brake lights and reverse lights—they just come on automatically when you brake and put the transmission in reverse. The Pro Scale Lighting system operates the same way—just drive normally, and the brake lights will come on when you brake and switch off when the trigger returns to neutral. And when you activate reverse, the reverse lights will come on and remain lit until you engage forward throttle.
Back to full-size cars: when you take a corner in your daily driver, the turn signals don’t switch on automatically. The same is true for the Pro Scale Lighting system. The turn signals only operate when you command them to. While your TRX-4 is stationary, turn the turn the transmitter’s wheel to full throw in the direction you wish to signal. The turn signal will flash in that direction, and self-cancel once you’re underway and return the steering to center. To cancel a signal before you’re underway, just give the wheel a flick in the opposite direction of the signal.
