Traxxas Celebrates National Retro Day
Check Out These Retro-Themed Maxx® Monster Truck Bodies
February 27 is National Retro Day! No, you don’t get a day off work, but you do get to celebrate all things old-school. To celebrate National Retro Day here at Traxxas, we’ve turned back the clock on the red-hot Maxx, with three classic paint schemes of the past and a few choice parts swaps. Let’s take a look at how this very modern machine goes back in time with style to spare.
Retro Look: T-Maxx
Flame on! This Maxx is showing off hot licks of fire from the original T-Maxx®, circa 2000. You’ll have to bust out your paints to duplicate the body, but you can get the classic T-Maxx wheel and tire package right now—just ask your favorite Traxxas dealer for two pairs of 4970 Maxx 3.2″ tires, 4972 satin wheels, 4971 tire foams, and 4954 14 mm hex hubs. And while you’re at it, treat yourself to a fresh bottle of 6468 Premium Tire Glue to mount up those new treads!

Retro Look: Nitro Rustler
Remember this Nitro Rustler® look? Wraparound color bands were the factory finish for the Nitro Rustler, one of the first Traxxas models to arrive with a fully painted body. Before Traxxas took the pre-painted plunge, RTRs included clear bodies. Traxxas led the way, as usual! This Maxx’s retro look is topped off with red beadlock styling via the 8972R tire and wheel combo, with matching red 8957R wheel washers.
Like the lights? That’s the 8990 Maxx LED light kit, which features high-intensity LEDs integrated into the bumpers, and includes a high-voltage 8-channel power amplifier that makes the lights remotely custom-configurable with the Traxxas Link app. You definitely need to check out this amazing LED setup!

Retro Look: Sledgehammer
Before T-Maxx, before Stampede®, there was the Sledgehammer®. Traxxas’ first-ever monster truck was one rad ride in 1989, with hot features such as a chrome roll bar, eight shocks, and snazzy gold-anodized skid plates. This Maxx is wearing the same paint that was showed off in the 90s’ Sledgehammer magazine ads, and it’s looking pretty sweet with its 8972T orange-ringed wheels and tires and matching 8957T wheel washers. And once again, we’ve got the 8990 Maxx LED light kit, which is definitely a favorite Maxx accessory for the gang here at Traxxas.
