Get Ultimate Steering Authority
We’ll be installing a 2075R servo, which improves durability with its metal gears and offers quicker steering compared to the standard 2075 and optional 2075X. Or, you can dramatically increase steering power with the 2250 and 2255 servos, which offer 164% and 220% more steering torque respectively over the Slash’s standard 2075 servo. Each of these servos is a drop-in fit for the Slash. Follow along with the steps below, or watch the full video.

How to Upgrade the Slash Steering Servo
You’ll need 2.5 mm and 2 mm hex drivers to install the servo. The Traxxas 7-Piece Metric Hex and Nut Driver Essentials Set 8712 includes all the bits you need (and more), and comes complete with a convenient storage case.
Begin by removing the body and the battery. Access the receiver by using the 2 mm driver to remove the screws that secure the wire clamp and the receiver box cover.
Unplug the steering servo. It is plugged into the channel-one (CH1) port. Pull on the plug to remove it, do not tug directly on the wires. Thread the servo wire out through the receiver box and the slots in the chassis. If your model has clear tape over the chassis’ wire clearance slot, you may remove it. Turn the model over and use a 2 mm driver to remove the screw that secures the servo saver. Pull straight up on the servo saver to remove it.
The servo-saver adapter may remain on the servo. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry it off if you cannot remove it with your fingers. Press the servo-saver adapter onto the new servo’s output shaft. Use a 2.5 mm driver to remove the four screws that secure the steering servo, and lift it out of the chassis.
Insert the new servo into the chassis and secure it using the screws you just removed. Position the servo so the servo wire faces the front of the model as shown. Thread the servo wire through the battery tray slots and into the receiver box via the wire-clamp slot.
Plug the servo info the channel-one (CH1) port. There are two CH1 ports, you can use either one. Reinstall the receiver box cover first, followed by the wire clamp. Carefully bundle any excess wire so it is not pinched by the cover, and make certain the blue O-ring that seals the receiver box is properly seated in its channel before securing the cover. We need to “center” the steering servo before reattaching the servo saver. Power-on the transmitter and your model.
Turn the steering trim knob on the transmitter to the 12 o’clock position (straight up). Position the front wheels so they point straight ahead, then reinstall the servo saver and secure it using the 2 mm driver. When properly installed, the steering linkage servo saver will be oriented like this.
Confirm the model steers properly. If the wheels do not point precisely straight ahead when the steering is at neutral, use the transmitter’s steering trim knob to fine-tune the center point. Reinstall the body, and you’re ready to enjoy enhanced steering authority, precision, and durability.
