How to Remove the Front shocks in the Unlimited Desert Racer

Remove the front shocks with these easy steps

The Traxxas Unlimited Desert Racer^® delivers real-world driving dynamics for the most realistic off-road racing experience possible. True-scale looks accentuate the Desert Racer’s faithfully reproduced tube frame chassis for a truck that looks as good as it performs. Just like a full-size race truck, the Desert Racer’s dual shocks can be tuned with many spring and oil weight combinations. This video demonstrates how to remove the front shocks for cleaning, tuning, or customizing.

Remove the body

Begin by removing all the screws that secure the Desert Racer body to the frame. Once the body is loose, pull it over the front bumper and set it aside with the screws.

Remove the front bumper

Remove the front bumper and support to access the shock attachment screws. There are three screws securing the support per side.

Remove the shock screw

With the support off, remove the long shock attachment screws to release the top of the shocks.

Release the retention screw

To release the bottom of the shock, remove the retention screw directly ahead of the shock closest to the front.

Remove the retaining pin

Flip the truck over and push the retaining pin forward through the rear of the suspension arm. This will release both shocks from the suspension arm.

Remove the shocks

You may now clean, rebuild, or replace the front shocks. Follow the same procedure for the other side. Installation is the opposite of removal, but pay attention to the order of the shocks. The shock with the threaded body should be behind the smooth one. Test the suspension before reattaching the body and tighten up all the screws.
