How to Install Traxxas Pro Scale Lighting with Telemetry in Your TRX-4
Outfit Your TRX-4 with Scale LED Lighting
One of the many reasons TRX-4 trail trucks are number-one is the wide variety of genuine Traxxas accessories that are as innovative as the trucks themselves. Two TRX-4 options in particular top the list for high-tech wow factor and outstanding realism: full-function Pro Scale LED lighting, and real-time Traxxas Link telemetry including GPS speed. When you equip your model with the required components, telemetry and Pro Scale Lighting can be installed together without compromising the remote operation and custom-configurability features of each system. We’ll show everything you need and how to set up your truck for the full Traxxas Link telemetry and Pro Scale Lighting experience. Get ready to take your TRX-4 to the next level!

Equipping Your TRX-4 With Pro Scale LED Lighting
Traxxas makes it easy to add Pro Scale LED Lighting to your TRX-4 by offering custom-fit installation kits and light kits to fully equip your model with all the required LEDs. Just visit the Pro Scale Lighting Guide, select your model, and you’ll find the specific items required to give your 4X4 the full Pro Scale Lighting treatment.

The Pro Scale Lighting System includes two cables to interface with your TRX-4’s TQ or TQi receiver. The Receiver Communication Cable is for the TQ receiver (standard in TRX-4 Sport) and the Maxx Link cable is used with the TQi receiver (standard in all other TRX-4 and TRX-6 models) to enable full Traxxas Link remote-operation functionality.
The Pro Scale Lighting Module mounts to the chassis and is the heart of lighting system. It connects to the speed control’s red mini plug for power, and plugs into the receiver so your throttle, steering, and brake commands can trigger the turn signals, brake lights, and reverse lights. To configure and operate the Pro Scale Lighting System remotely via the Traxxas Link App, a TQi receiver and hookup with the Maxx Link Cable are required.

The Lighting Power Module installs on the chassis and plugs into the speed control’s red connector to power the lighting system.

Use the Maxx Link cable to connect the Power Module to the receiver. The single-row plug fits into the receiver’s Traxxas Link port, and the 2-row plug fits into the Power Module’s Maxx Link IN port.
Adding Telemetry to Your TRX-4
The Telemetry Expander is the heart of the Traxxas Link telemetry system. You can get the expander with or without a GPS module, and the module is available separately so you can add it anytime. To install the expander in your TRX-4, you’ll need 6561 mount. It installs between the chassis rails in just a few minutes.

The #6561 Telemetry Expander Mount is sold separately and installs between the frame rails in place of the wire guides. The mount has integrated wire guides of its own for a neat installation.

The Telemetry Expander is available with or without a GPS module and has positions for up to six sensors (sold separately). The included Communication Cable normally plugs into the TQi receiver’s Traxxas Link port, but since the Pro Scale Lighting system is already using that port, the Expander will be plugged into the Pro Scale Lighting Power Module.

The Telemetry Expander’s included Communication Cable has a single-row plug on each end. This cable will fit into the Lighting Power Module, but it will not allow the Telemetry Expander to communicate with the receiver. Replacing the included cable with a 6565 Maxx Link cable enables the Telemetry Expander and the Pro Scale Lighting System to operate simultaneously with full remote access via the Traxxas Link app.

Connecting the Telemetry Expander, Power Module, and receiver with Maxx Link cables enables simultaneous telemetry and Pro Scale Lighting functionality. This diagram is simplified for clarity; be sure to follow the complete Pro Scale Lighting instructions and Telemetry Expander instructions when installing these accessories on your TRX-4.

Install the 6511 Traxxas Link Wireless Module into the TQi transmitter to enable communication with your iOS or Android device.

When you connect your TRX-4 to the app, it will automatically recognize your model. Navigate to the Dashboard and tap the Lights button to access the Pro Scale Lighting control and configuration screens.
Adding Gauges
Tap the dashboard to access the editing controls, then tap the gauge position where you would like to add, remove, or edit a gauge. When linked to your TRX-4, the app will automatically locate installed telemetry sensors when you tap the Refresh button on the add-gauge screen. Just tap the sensor you would like the gauge to represent. If you’ve installed a GPS sensor, the sensor does not need to be connected to a satellite for gauge setup. However, you will only receive GPS speed data when you operate your truck outdoors—the GPS module cannot connect to the satellite system if you’re indoors.
