How to Install Traxxas LED Light Sets
Add a New Dimension to Your RC Experience with LED Lighting
The latest XL-5 powered Bandit®, Stampede®, Rustler®, BIGFOOT No. 1®, Slash, Slash 4X4, Stampede 4X4®, and Rustler 4X4® models now feature standard LED-lighting for exciting RC fun when the sun goes down. Traxxas knew the latest models’ LED bumpers would be sought-after upgrades and makes it easy to add them to your model with complete installation kits. Each includes front and rear LED-equipped bumpers, power harness, instructions, and any additional hardware if required. All you need to supply is your model and 15-30 minutes of bench time (Note: LED kits do not currently work with vehicles upgraded to the Magnum 272R transmission). The specific assembly steps for each LED bumper kit vary, but the basics are the same (and easy)—just plug the power wire harness into the receiver, swap your original bumpers for the LED bumpers, and plug their wires into the harness. We’ll show you how with our Stampede 4X4 (which you may recall from this build) in the steps below.

Step 1: Open the Receiver Box
Step 2: Plug the Harness Into the Receiver

Whether your model has a 3-channel receiver as shown or the 5-channel TSM receiver, you’ll find it has two Channel 1 (CH1) ports. The power wire harness can be installed in whichever CH1 port isn’t being used, or the CH3 port. Do not connect them to the V/T or RPM slots on the TSM receiver.
Step 3: Route the Power Wire Harness
Power wire harness routing varies with each model. For our Stampede 4X4, we’ve tucked it between the servo and receiver box. Make sure the blue O-ring seal seen in Step 2 is properly seated and no wires are pinched between the receiver box and lid before tightening it in place.
Step 4: Remove the Bumpers
The specific screws you’ll need to remove vary with each model. Just follow the instructions included with the bumper set.
Step 5: Install the New Bumpers
Route the power wires through the shock towers. Reuse the screws you removed from the original bumpers to install the LED bumpers. There may be additional hardware included for bumper assembly, depending on the bumper set your installing.

Simply match up the red plugs to connect the bumper lights and power wire harness. Either male plug can go into either female plug, they aren’t specific to the front or rear bumpers.
Step 6: Bundle Excess Wire
Make sure the wires don’t interfere with any moving parts, and leave a little slack to accommodate chassis and bumper flex.
Step 7: Power Up!

Install a battery and power up your model. The LEDs switch on when you power up and switch off when you power down. The powerful LEDs glow brightly for even more exciting and authentic RC action.
That's all there is to it! Grab some batteries and hit the trails in your new LED-powered truck. For even more fun options, check out the accessory page for your model here.
