Adjusting Your Vehicle's Gear Mesh has Never Been Easier!
The latest Traxxas 2WD models (Slash®, Stampede®, Rustler®, Bandit®, Bigfoot®, and Ford® F-150® Raptor®) all include fixed gear adapters to make setting your gear mesh easy and accurate. If your truck does not already have these adapters, we've got you covered. Fixed gear adapters (3790) are quick and simple to install and they cost less than $5. This article explains what they do and how to install them.

What Do Fixed Gear Adapters do?
To set gear mesh in a 2WD model, the lower motor-mounting screw is installed in a slot so the motor can pivot back and forth to accommodate gears of different sizes. It’s up to you to set the gear mesh “just right.” Gears that are too tightly meshed may whine and overheat. Gears that are too loose tend to chatter and may strip teeth easily. The adapters are actually pre-set spacers that set the gear mesh automatically for you every time. There's no guesswork involved, just a perfect gear mesh every time. The adapters also lock the motor in place so it's won't be jarred loose after a crash or impact. Using fixed gear adapters ensures you’ll get maximum life from your gears, and maximum efficiency from your motor.
Installing the Adapter
The gear adapter simply fits between the motor and the motor plate. To select the correct adapter, just locate your pinion and spur gear tooth counts on the chart included with the adapters. Some adapters cover more than one gear combination; just choose the lettered hole that matches your gearing. Insert the adapter into the motor plate, install the motor as normal.

Install the adapter between the motor and the transmission’s motor plate. The adapter is a friction-fit in the motor opening, and is self-aligning. You can see how the adapter fills the adjustment slot, leaving one position.

Install the pinion so it’s centered on the spur gear. Now all we have to do is replace the gear cover and this Rustler VXL will be ready for action with perfectly-meshed gears. If you’d like to learn more about those green Heavy Duty arms, check out our Rustler 3-Stage Upgrade Build.

That Was Easy
Fixed gear adapters take only a few minutes to install and cost less than $5. Be sure to keep the leftover adapters handy for gearing changes. In addition to the stock gear ratios, the adapters also cover the “speed gearing” ratios for most 2WD models.
