A few weeks ago we finished our Ultimate TRX-4 G 500 Custom Build. While wrenching on your RC truck delivers its own satisfaction, the real fun is hitting the trail with your friends. We packed up our customized trucks and headed out to the lake for some rock crawling adventures. We’re happy to report that both trucks performed flawlessly. Read on to see how our modifications improved their performance.

If you’ll recall, we changed out the stock wheels and tires on the G 500 scale crawler with the wheels and tires from the 6X6. Not only do the wheels look great, but the tires have a taller (and softer) sidewall with more flex. The additional tire flex helped our G 500 really bite into the rock faces. Our modified TRX-4 crawled through the rocks and sand with ease. The G 500’s short overhangs really helped it get up and over the steep terrain without dragging on any rocks.

We went all-out modifying our Stage 3 Monster. The larger 2.2″ beadlock wheels and tires added even more ground clearance to an already proven chassis. Large Canyon Trail 2.2″ tires with dual-stage foams performed well on the rocks, sand, and mud thanks to their larger contact patch and sticky compound. It was no surprise that the enhanced articulation from the Long Arm Lift Kit and extra downtravel from the long 110 mm GTS shocks kept the tires glued to the rocks, but even we were surprised how well the truck performed. Tough off-camber climbs and descents were no problem for this virtually unstoppable beast.
