Three of Our Most Popular Models Now Accept Long-Format Batteries
The Traxxas Bandit, Rustler, and Stampede are three of the best-selling RC trucks of all time. Until now, the short-format “hump pack” has been the preferred battery for these models. There’s an exciting new change happening that will now allow you to share your long-format batteries across nearly the entire Traxxas lineup. New 2WD Bandits, Rustlers, and Stampedes (including VXL models) now feature extended battery trays to accommodate both short-format “hump pack” and long-format “flat pack” batteries.

The two batteries on the left feature the same voltage and capacity. One battery features six powerful NiMH cells in rows with a single cell on top. These are commonly called “hump pack” batteries and they measure 139 mm long. The long-format battery or “flat pack” is 162 mm long and features the same six NiMH cells, but has a single cell at the end. In the past, all 2WD Bandit, Rustler, and Stampede trucks would only accept the short-format batteries. A new chassis for all three models features a longer battery tray that will accept both short and the long-format batteries typically associated with Slash models. This means you can now buy one long-format battery and use it in nearly every Traxxas model.
Identifying the Changes

If you recently purchased a Bandit, Rustler, or Stampede, you may have some questions about which battery you should use. The easiest way to determine this is to check the box panels. They will indicate which battery is included inside or if you should choose a long-format or short format battery.
Examine the Chassis
The new chassis features a longer battery tray and revised speed control mounts. These are the only two parts that change on the vehicles. This means all current parts and accessories that you have now will also fit the new long-format chassis. The easiest way to tell which vehicle you have is to measure the battery tray. If your battery tray measures approximately 139 mm, you should shop for shorter hump pack batteries. If your battery tray is approximately 164 mm, you can use either short or long format batteries. Have a look at the two versions below to identify your models.
