is this necessary upgrade? I am still running stock plastic but i was wondering if aluminum would be better.... What does it help with? I am still running stock and I have no problems with it, I just always see people swap these parts out.
my motor is 2400kv castle if that makes any difference.
KH or HR...

I never had a need to swap out the stock mount. I check and clean my bearings fairly often though. If I needed an additional heatsink, or had issues with bearing failures, I would swap it out.
I suggest kings head especially with a higher torque setup. It will not flex and the bigger bearing will stay cooler and last longer. Also kingshead gives a replacement bearing so you have a spare.
It really doesn't matter as long as its aluminum mount , just make sure to get a good quality bearing. Think about the XO-1 going 100+ mph with same size stock bearing.

Funny, he has just about the same post in the Slash 4x4 forum. As I said there, I have the King Headz motor mount and I love it. I have used them in my past two HCG Slash 4x4 and Ultimate Edition. They remove a lot of chassis flex and the oversized bearings have worked well for me.

If you are not pushing the stock system, a plastic one may do you... I pushed my stocker with a 3s Lipo, that lead to heat, which transferred to the bearing, which melted the plastic motor mount, which allowed the clutch and sure gear assembly to shift, which resulted in a stripped gear....
You decide if it's right for you.
Stripped out gear
The main culprit, enlarged bearing mounting hole. The bearing was shot and covered with melted plastic from the mount
Well I am planning on only running 22/50 on 2400kv. What real purpose does the Alu mount serve then ?
Have you read above?
1. Eliminates chassis flex
2. Enlarged bearing equals cooler running. longer lasting parts such as spur, slipper etc..
I like king headz but have not tried strc. I do not like the HR. Got a dud and they have zero customer service.
I had my stock motor mount running for more than a year on 4s without any issue or bearing failure although a slight rub from one of the slipper clutch screw back out a bit eating a good amount on the plastic.
I've always wanted the aluminum motor mount since day one but I want the stock to put a good mileage first lol.
with aluminum motor mount it really stiffen around that area.

I think you have it covered and are good to go.
So I installed the KH motor mounts and heard this loud grinding noise, So I took it apart and the grub screw for the pinion gear was rubbing hardcore on the KH mount. Did I install something wrong? The grub screw does not sit flush on the pinion gear. The screw that goes into the motor mount to the motor was a little loose.
I have the hot racing mount and I'm always happy with hot racing parts I've had tons of parts from them mainly for my revo 's never had an issue not even the alloy diff cups some swore would be crap. My rally has the hr motor mount and ther roll cage both are great they might not have the support others have but seriously how many people will claim or win a claim on metal parts anyway. Electrics go with someone with great after sale support but metal parts so long as ther machined well which hr are you're golden.
The hr mount is half the price of the khz too. It only includes one bearing but ther cheap to buy in packs I will get some ceramic bearings for it when needed.
I just wish hot racing stuck to ther normal colour scheme black with silver lining instead of blue/silver.
