Question Give me your thoughts on Losi 2800kv

alright so after searching for a week or so I have found that 1st and for most they are all Castle motors so thats not an issue. Also I have seen it compared to both the 2400kv and the 2650kv motor ?? This is the part that throws me for a loop. The fact that they have different shaft sizes would only matter if one was stronger than the other.

So now down to how I use my slash's I now have just been doing alot of street/parking lot bashing. Mostly I use it in the grass at my local disc golf courses and fields. I like to go fast and have alot of torque to be able to spin tires on demand (or wheelie would be great) But your responses don't have to be limited to that type of driving just state what type you are referring to in your posts

For batteries I currently own the traxxas 2s 4200mah 25c and a Vant battery 3s 6400mah 75c.But i would like to do more 3s-4s packs but prefer not to be limited on either side of the scale As much as possible

I have no local track or hobby store I have one other buddy that i got into the hobby and I have another VXL system slash so no way to compare in person to anything but the VXL system

wheelie monster that is I geared it 12t/54t on 2.8 trenchers. I run it for about 10mins, I didn't have a temp gun but, I can keep my finger without letting it go.

I also run it with XO-1 wheels/tires at one point, geared it 20T/54T and its fast, not sure how fast though but, its moving alright.

I don't know the stock gearing anymore lol. I run mostly mod1. only my P4de running mod.8 and my pinions are 12t/15t/18t/20t, my spurs 54t/52t.

your not thinking of buying the Losi branded MMP also, do you?

I'm running the losi 2800 in my slash with the hobbywing Xerun 120A and it rocks. I pretty much only run on an indoor clay track so I'm limited to 2s. I'm geared at 17/54 and it walks all over everyone at the track. Even after running it hard for a whole pack my motor only hit 88'F. When I let others drive it they can't even keep it under control. I picked up the motor from a buddy for $40. Best $40 I ever spent on my slash

Oh also I'm running a 6000mah 2s true 60c battery. I tried someone's 30c battery and noticed a loss in power and the battery got kinda hot. Use a higher discharge rate battery when using this motor

Would you compare it to a 2400 or a 2650 motor? 4s is plenty for me I've only gone 3s so far and really like it but always want more power and speed. I own the Losi motor want a MM2 and either 2200,2400,2650 castle motor but don't want to have two that perform the same I really like top speeds of 2650. But I'd like to be able to run 50mph for long period of time least 30 mins on 3s

I ran my slash4 with the Castle 2400 SCT combo geared it 20/52. Got around 50-54mph. Temp's were good after a 5000mah pack bash session. I run the 2650 in the exact same slash4 but use 3s, not 4s. It is fast and will pick the front wheel's up at ANY time. It is sweet.

Its hard to go wrong with any of the three motors you choosing from.
I have run the 2800kv in my losi scte ten and the 2400kv and 2650kv in my slash 4wds.
My opinion is the 2400 is the best all around motor, in the end its all up to you, its just my opinion putting a 1/8 scale motor in my 1/10 scale truck was over the top.
Best of luck with your choice, any one of the three will getter done, its was just my personal choice to pull my 2650 and put another 2400kv in it place.

i like over the top but i can see where it has its downfalls. Throttle control is fun to me though I love being able to kick the back end out at will wheelies at will would be awesome also. I figure ill end up with at least two of them the 2400 is cheap so i am thinking of buying MM2 2650 combo or MM2 2200 combo because i want the esc.

This 2800kv at 15/50 is not over the top yet for me on 3s

when I have the 2800 on my Rally GT8 geared Mod1 15/36 on 4s it got hot quick so, I then switch over to my MM/2200 and no more heat issue bashing around at the parking lot.

    heres a size difference with mod1 18t next to mod.8 18t pinion

    Mod.8 54 next to mod1 54 spurs

I ment 15/54 geared my fault 15/50 is what im going next. Thats a crazy size difference now i have something else i need to learn more about. what are the pros/cons of mod1 gearing i realize it will get hotter and go faster does it just allow more extremes> And does this always require modding chassis

nothing special on Mod1 gearing just have larger gear bite with less to nothing stripping gears on some chassis, yes modding might needed to fit a larger pinion but a 20t pinion like on my LCG chassis fits perfectly.

I've tried the losi 2800 in a slash 4x4, p4de, p2de, rustler, and associated rc8.2e. For the money, it's very hard to beat. I generally preferred it over the 2400 in the 1:10 vehicles, especially on 2S, where the extra kv was welcome. That's only my opinion though. Just wanted to show that the reviews could go both ways. Rc8.2e on 4s was pushing it a bit too much.

My 2800 currently resides in my p2de on 2s. It's overkill, but I like it.

So you would compare it to the 2400kv from castle? I really just don't want to end up with 2 of the same motors after a lot of videos and research I decided I'm going MM2 2650kv combo for one of my slashes and 2400 or keep this Losi 2800 and MMP combo I have now for the other one.

Give me your thoughts on Losi 2800kv

If you already have the 2800, then i'd say there's not much point in swapping. They're pretty similar.

The 2650 is my favorite bashing motor for the slash 4x4. With those two combos, you'll have a great pair of overpowered smile-inducing trucks!

the motor is not a problem its the ESC that you have to worry about. if that bothers you, you can tape it off.

Yeah, the covered end bell on the castle motors is just to keep dirt out of the bearing. It's just a piece of plastic held in with a couple screws.

thanks thing is a bullet on 4s I can translate that into a 2.53 gear ratio and then I was able to figure that to be right around a 20/50 gearing ratio. Ever get any actual numbers from your speed runs?

Not to steal this thread, but I have to comment... so from what I've read, the Losi 2800 is great on 2s? Also, what esc can run it? Thanks!

Yes. Put a good quality 2s lipo on it, and it'll provide lots of power. Losi was smart to use it on the 4x4 SCTE RTR. I believe they added the extra 400kv just because short course racing is usually restricted to 2s.

I just finally got to install mine today on my slash. I ran it on 3s paired with a mamba monster extreme...wow! It has loads of torque and it just seems to have 'raw power'. Its great for me!

Im really not sure haha. I'll pull it apart tomorrow. I had already mounted a gear on the motor a few weeks ago, and I dont remember what spur was in it.

At first, the motor ran backwards so I just flipped the throttle channel and I was very disappointed. I put the throttle channel back to normal and switched up two motor wires and its 30% faster at least. I figured out I needed to when it flipped on a hard reverse. Easy wheelies even on loose dirt.

Today it was nice out hoping for same tommorow and ill get some 15/50 runs in and let you know what I think

I just ran 15/50 for about 15 mins. That was more to my liking I'd say 45-50mph

Ran my Losi 2800kv on the traxxas 25C 4200mah for 15 mins. Battery still had some juice but I was cold. I have it geared 15/50 and it hits about 30mph goobs of torque though. Nothing was over 90 degrees but its 7F outside today. I really enjoyed my street bash/speed runs with it today. I had to ease into the throttle a little over half way in order to be able to punch it with out rear tires breaking loose. There is a good deal of sand on the streets right now. Spent a little time in the backyard setup I have going and the torque really stood out there, the dust was flying
