anyone know why was the xo-1 built with the foam cushion placed behind the front splitter?....if you make a mistake and hit something, the plastic instead of the foam will take the hit. I get the aerodynamic argument but if the foam cushion is just jutting out a little, the foam would lessen the blow to the car and the aerodynamics should be preserved....as it stands now, the foam has no function except to take up space.
The foam isn't for the little bumps, it's for the real hard hits. The foam kinda backs up the plastic and will absorb a lot of the energy in a really hard hit.
It doesn't do anything when your car gets ran over though
Sure it'll work, watch this
Same in 1-1 cars. The splitter is ahead of the bumper. It cannot do its job if it's not the first thing in the airstream, and unfortunately the first thing into the curb too.
With the way it's built the front splitter is a sacrificial part anyway. It's easy to change and fairly inexpensive if it does fail.
If the splitter is hitting things, then you need to move from "design flaw" to "driver flaw."
