Thumbs up Getting an XO-1, Finally. Budget Build.

Finally decided to pull the trigger on an XO-1.
Waited long enough that the price has finally gotten reasonable.

Planning on doing a budget build to start out with
(i have nowhere to run 100mp/h nor do i really have a desire to do so, figure it would be a one time thing and then never do it again anyways)

Picked up a roller on eBay last night for under $200 which i cant complain with considering the LHS cost on Drive shafts for example.

My plan is to drop a Castle MMM 2200kv system in it and run 4s lipo.
    Savox 1256 servo, SweepRacing wheels.
(may pick up some XO-1 stockers at some point, but they are still a little cray-cray as far as pricing goes)

Also picked up a Black body from eBay.

I already have the electronics available to me as well as the tires. So to start out im basically building a budget XO-1 for under $300. Cant complain with that.

I'll post some pic and such once i have the car and the body.

Anything I need to know, should replace out of the box?
Not a stranger to Large On-road by any means, but im an XO-1 Rookie.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing.... Budget xo-1. I don't have a place to go 100mph either. But I love the look of this on road supercar. Congrats on the buy and I hope to be in your shoes soon.

Budget builds on XO-1's has become a whole lot cheaper. I think I have maybe $200 in my 2wd XO-1. Had a lot of parts already (electronics mainly). I'm running a MMM ESC and 2250kv motor. Lots of fun, but just watch your temps.

Im a temp watcher in everything. even after i find a sweet spot for gearing i still check them routinely.
I usually gear on the side of caution too. usually find a sweet spot and drop a tooth on the pinion.

I put together a roller for $180, plus doubles of a few parts.... Just need ESC, motor, and Rx, but this is a spare for my other 2 X0-1's.....

Yeah they have certainly come down in price. Im sure i could have been eBay patient and gotten the roller for cheaper. But i was watching eBay all week looking for rollers and parts. Decided $167 (on sale) was a pretty good deal IMO considering the parts i have here.

A new xo-1 roller for less than $200 is a great deal.

yeah i did some comparative pricing based on the roller vs. parting one together. and that roller was by far the cheaper option.

Odd question, the Mamba Extreme XO-1 take off i bought is presumably locked.
I dont plan on running any telemetry on mine for the time being. Not to mention it will be running the 2200kv on 4s lipo.

Should i look into getting it unlocked or will i run into issues either way? Only looking for 50-55mph tops realistically.

nah, i sold the ERBE-gt to fund the 360mm conversion on my ofna. (spent more on just a chassis and body than the entire car is new lol)

I have been thinking about an XO-1 for the longest time. Now that the RTR had the price drop, the parts and rollers are finally at a decent price.

you must have a hefty collections of RC's. I feel the same way you did about the XO-1 and I did too build one from scratch like I always do with the rest of my RC's lol. My XO-1 build is put on hold for now until fund is available

yeah I built quite a few RC's and they are all traxxas hehehe. I remember when I have my MERV, (fit nicely in my back pack) I use to take it to work too and on my break time theres a park on my deliver route, that's where I run.

I don't think you will need have it unlocked. I know with the stock setup the TQi was showing 53mph and the GPS was 51mph. That is the stock Mamba Extreme & 1717 Motor, gearing, running 6S.

What does the XO-1 in stock trim do when it hits the "limit"? anything at all? or just stops accellerating?

Im actually impressed with how fast this new skretchy eBay shipping program got my roller here.

Im more impressed by just how sezzy this roller is. And its HUGE.
Im running a 360mm wheelbase GTP2e and this is a couple inches longer still than that. Hahaha Love It.

Can't wait for everything else to arrive.

Servo and RX will be on tonight. Set of Sweep GT's on there for now.
Body shouldn't be too far behind.
ESC is on the way as well.

Well i was going top install my Savox1232tg in here but it is quite tall. I have spacers, will this be an issue?

What is everyone else using for a servo on these monsters?

Might not be an issue. Just hook the linkage up and make sure it doesn't bind. I run Traxxas 2075 servos in mine but I mainly do speed runs. The 2075 is actually quite responsive in this car in my opinion.

Yeah i may do some speed runs, but I'm primarily building another parking lot basher.

I installed it anyways, added the spacers and it fits ok. only change i felt I needed to do was to move the arm on the horn to the outer hole. Doesn't appear to bind on anything now.

You should get excellent steering response from using the top hole like that.

Sweet ill consider that a bonus side effect of running a taller servo

Looking at pictures I did not realize how much a difference that .29" makes as far as the fender gap is concerned. Might end up buying a set of stockers to run as well.

They are down around 3.8" arent they?
    Way too small.

I think if i can find or snag a set of 4 on the bay i'll pick em up. I have never had an issue with the Sweeps.

I have had these Police/Swat decals for so long. Finally decided to put them on something and was amazed at how the stripes fit on here. Not how they are intended to go, but they just seem to work. Suppose a light kit might be in order for this now lol.

    2200kv motor in. 16/46 gearing.
Motor looks so small in there lol.

Anyone else running the 2200? Wondering if that will be enough pinion.
Power will come from the XO-1 esc.

I've run 2250kv. Just start with the small pinion and move up as you feel comfortable.

Another question, what have you guys done if any to help firm up the front splitter. Lots of flex in it.
Wondering if its worth snugging things up.

I havent seen a lightbar wide enough to look good. I have a bar on my Ken Block but its only 4.5" wide.

** that might actually look ok on there. The flat spot on the roof is only 6"
