Though there are the obvious up sides, honestly I wouldn't care for all that money. The constant harassment of people wanting some and having to worry about the money let alone the house possibly being broken into, things happening to the family... Take a look at many past large jackpot winners: broke, depressed, family is gone and pretty much lost everything--some even their life. Not worth it, IMHO.

I saw on the news people were waiting up to 9 hours for a ticket! The chance of winning was 1 to 175000000 and you would have just as good of a chance getting squashed by a pinball machine, winning an oscar and becoming president!

No way I'll ever buy a lottery ticket. I'm afraid a sum of money like that would wreck my life and tempt me to do a whole lot of things that I wouldn't do otherwise. I'd prefer maybe $100,000. Just enough to pay some stuff off, have some in savings, and get a nice car.

    So... You're saying there's a chance...

Out of 5 picks I got 2 numbers... Oh well. And yes, I would like to win this much money. There are lots of stories of people ending up completely broke afterwards, but there are more stories of people who handled the money just fine.

I somewhat happen to agreee here. While yes somtimes it would be great to end ones money problmes and or issues but; i can definitely see where the problems would arise from having so much $. Money definitely is not always everything in life and while it can help out in certain situations; I would much rather have family etc then a huge sum of $ imo.

    Lets break this down...
    590.5 million...
cash option for that would be a little over 397 million.
Lets say taxes take 50%... that leaves over 198 million.
Now for arguments sake...lets invest that 198 million in a money market account...that draws .75% apy.
That computes to a little under 1.5 million a year in interest alone(not taking into account interest gained on the compounded interest that you don't spend)

That 1.5 million would work out to a weekly paycheck of a little over $28,500 per week... or approximately $4100 per day.

I think I could squeeze by on that.

(yes...I have too much time on my hands.lol)

    Love your math!

It is likely you'd get a lot better return on this money, given the amount. It would be more than enough to live on and support other family members. Personally, I would pay for college for as many as many family members as I could, at least those that I know would actually get something out of it.

The very first thing someone winning any sizable amount of money should do is incorperate it, get the money our of your name, you'd also be able to take advantage of big business tax breaks (unless you live in California). The second thing to do is take accounting classes to learn how to take care of this money...

As far as taxes goes, if someone gave me $10, and I paid $5 of that in taxes, I'm still up $5 that I didn't work for...

As for having that much money you can hire an attorney to collect the prize for you. 33 people matched the 5 numbers but didn't have the powerball number so they get at least 1 million dollars and if they bought the power play 3 dollar ticket 2 million. I would be happy with that even if I had to pay the 30% tax.

I don't blame them IMO. Can you imagine how many people would expect you to give them money? Not even to mention how many people would try to break in to your house looking for the money.

I only want a rimac concept one and some more Rc cars. Maybe some other large things also like a house. I couldn't stand not working. I have to be doing something regardless of the work involved. The harder the better. I spent all of yesterday moving bricks.
Whatever you are, be a good one.
