I would do the steel idler gear mod, in the trans. I would also look for a dog bone conversion for the drive shaft. I am tearing up drive shafts with a 2.5r on regular basis. Maybe a hump pack, and put up front, to try and keep the front wheels down. Other than that have fun. Others have done it, maybe they will chime in with some other ideas.

It sure turns her into a serious beast, basically any beefing up of the tranny, driveshafts, gears etc is good, and adding weight up front, everything in the above post from west, upgrade the suspention and a brake kit. The Losi 3.4 Carb is something you should really concider if u get the 3.3.
