What do you guys do to clean your merv from dirt and nasty gunk? Do you use motor spray or WD40? What about lubricate the bearings? Do you use Tri-Flow or light machine oil?
Watch Out!!! My merv is a little green Hulk.
WD-40 = "Water Displacement." Fights rust and dirt really well! Either Tri-Flow or light oil would work fine for the bearings.
Make it idiot-proof and along comes a better idiot
Yep. But, IT"S NOT A LUBRICANT! You need to use a true oil, not WD-40. 3 in 1 oil works, in fact any oil used in cars like motor oil will work also. Just some work better than others. To clean the gunk off, I just run them in the snow. I wash the crud of in the sink, then I wipe it down with a towel. Works great. Just my .02 cents.WD-40 = "Water Displacement."
i use my lil air compressor the blow the junk off, esp i just ran in the wet. a dab of wd40 on metal parts n screw heads will stop rust.
For my other then ceramic bearings I use acer sin oil .made for bearings and works great but they should be cleaned first. I use a bearing blaster with motor spray
I have a 2 gallon air compressor that I use to blow all of the water and gunk away my only complaint about is that 2 gallons is not quite enough air I think a 6 gallon would be better
Ya, I've got a 40 gallon, so I'm covered. The bigger, the better. I forgot to add that blowing your car off works great also.I have a 2 gallon air compressor that I use to blow all of the water and gunk away my only complaint about is that 2 gallons is not quite enough air I think a 6 gallon would be better
"simple green" spray and a toothbrush works amazing
What's a coffee if it aint Irish
I clean my MERV with snow

i use my compressor to get as much crap off, then assorted old paint brushes to get the rest.
if something is really stuck, i crack out some petrol and leave it in there for a bit... not sure what the health and safety cops would say to that
I spray my merv down in the sink then put it in front of a heater for a couple hours rotating it a few times
MERV, Broken Alias.
First, i shake it upside down take out the motor because mine is brushed take it to a sink and wash it with hot water then i take it to the garage and spray it down with my air compressor and then relube it with 3 in 1 oil and some bearing grease each and every time after a heavy run!
WD 40 is good to clean away water, its what it was initially invented for. ( de ice planes) only thing i find is that you need to really wipe away the oil or fine dust collects much faster. I've been using carb cleaner and really like it. its super cheap and the can has a lot of pressure, I then use my air compressor or a rag to wipe the dirt off!
