    piston and sleeve

I am building a new 3.3 engine and I have a new piston and sleeve but I am having issues. I tried adding some oil to help slide the piston in but it just wont go in. It actually gets stuck. I was thinking about trying some very fine sand paper to help make them fit but do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

Don't use sand paper on your piston or sleeve. Heat the engine up with a blow dyer or a heat gun before you try and start it. Are you using a pull start or the ez start?

I am using an ez start. It gets tight on the very end of it when it first goes in

I going thought the same thing with mine. The pinch is real tight on a new sleeve. Just use some heat until it breaks in.

Yeah the sleeve slides right into the case, the tight part is sliding the piston into the sleeve. I saw some burrs so i used very fine cloth to clean up the surface a little but nothing much at all. I just got a heat gun out of the garage so i will try it that way. Thanks

I got the piston in but after it cooled it got tight again and wont come all the way up flush. I started to put together the rest of the engine and I have a new backplate with starter shaft. I know how that goes together but a small washer/shim came with it. Am I missing something or does that go on the shaft and where? Thanks

The washer goes around the starter shaft.

Between the shaft and plate or does that go between the plate and starter bearing?

It goes in-between the bearing and the back plate.

I know the feeling. I have a new piston & sleeve in my Jato that I still need 2 break in. I have a couple of bodies that need 2 be painted. Between work and the weather I feel like I just don't have enough time to get everything done.

Exactly, I have been working lots of overtime at work, building to new Legends cars for this racing season in a couple months then working on my Jato plus a friends Slayer Pro as well. Then you have all the social life, family, and friends to. Definitely need more time LOL. Thanks again for your help.

The sleeve is tapered so the piston will not be flush with the sleeve. If it does then the sleeve is worn.
