How do I get my rustler to do wheelies?

I have a rustler that i got in march of 2012. This past xmas I upgraded to the velenion brushless system but i cant get my truck to do wheelies.

I've tightened my slipper clutch (1/2 turn) but that didn't work.

I am using the stock pinion (19-tooth) and spur gear (86-tooth) that came on the the xl-5 rustler.

Do I need to change pinion/spur gears?

What battery are you using? Maybe that one isn't fit enough for the task of sufficiently feeding your VXL combo.

That might be the problem. Can you test a friend's battery?
With that gearing, slipper set up right, that thing should make wheelies at about every speed.

mine would wheelie out of the box ONLY once the motor and ESC warmed up....weird. The stock tires arent great for pavement traction (they are dirt tires), and its built to race, not wheelie...just sayin'

the stock battery is good but Lipo batteries will scare the mess out of you! You want wheelies? get Lipo batteries - then you'll be begging for advise to keep it on the ground.

I've got on-road and off-road tires so that shouldn't be the case

I have a 2 cell venom lipo that I've been using on a slash. I'll have to try it tomorrow, as it is too late to drive right now.

If you can get a Pede4x4 to wheelie with a battery, it should work on a Rustler too. Maybe the clutch has to be set a bit more tight.

my rusty stock came with 25/83 gears and the slipper was backed off only a 1/4 turn from tight right from the factory.I could pull wheelies almost anytime and ride them for 20 feet, after I got a wheelie bar.that was with the stock 3000mah 7 cell battery that came with it.then I wore the tires out and got anaconda's and they just spun a lot instead of gripping and pulling wheelies.I'm not saying my rusty was a wheelie king,I had to punch the throttle at just the right time but it would when bone stoock.
anyone have an extra truck,I broke mine again

It's all about traction... No traction, no wheelie

I have big trenchers on my rusty at the moment.not a chance of pulling a wheelie with 25/83 gears.I just changed to a 14t pinion to test it.fully charged 7 cell 3000mah traxxas battery that came with it.it's pulling wheelies with no problem.had to put the wheelie bar back on.I dont know what tires you have but gearing has more to do with it than traction.with the 25/83 gears I could spin the tires easily, with the 14/83 gears I could pull wheelies.same tires.

    It's not gearing, period.

Tighten your slipper clutch all the way and try again. Then after it wheelies at will, back it out 1/8 to 1/4 turn.

Tighten the slipper gearing is fine for wheelies if still wont need to check your diff might need to repack it if you really want wheelies bad horsie grease will guarantee them.

Through in a mamba monster in there and it will... Then back flip about 10 times! My rustler was able to wheelie with a fresh 7 cell battery with a xl5 my other vxl will wheelie in demand, sounds like you need some batteries,go lipo cheaper and a big difference in performance, how's you tread on you tires? Getting allot of wheel spin? Might upgrade that to a grippy tire ( trencher for the most grip!) slipper doesn't new to wrenched down but I always had mine snug.
