    Exclamation pinion gear meshing...

how do i correctly mesh an 18 toothed pinion gear with a 54 toothed spur gear. i already tried and i think its too loose it makes a really high pitched sound at top speed

The concept is still the same.
Use the paper between spur and pinion, just like the video shows.

Thats a slash 2wd but the concept is the same. Paper between spur and pinion to set the mesh.

As for noise it could be too tight of a mesh or a loose slipper clutch.
The slipper should be tightened all the way then backed off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If you get into really large high torque motors its more like 1/8 turn backed off.
