1. lipo battery help

Looking to buy a new set of 5000mah lipos. I need 2 2s lipos for a total of 4s. I don't understand the difference between a battery that is 2s2p and a battery that is 2s1p. I have a set now and I don't really know what they are....they seem to work just fine. 2, 2s lipos, 5000mah, 7.4v each, paired together for a total of 14.8v. I thought that would be a good sweetspot for my esc/motor combo. I bought my original lipos based on them being 2s and 7.4v....I was not aware of the 1P/2P thing. Now, I'm looking for a set for my son and don't know what to buy. Any help from the battery experts out there would be appreciated

Thinking of these by cells - the 2S1P is only 2 lipo cells wired in series (the S number is the # of cells wired in series) and the 1P is actually redundent in this case - adds nothing other than to say there's no cells in parallel (1 cell in parallel makes no sense, this is uaually omitted for 1P type pacs).

The number associated with the P is the number of cells in parallel. Your 2S2P is made up of 4 cells - there are 2 sets of 2 cells wired in series. The pair of 2S cells are wired together in parallel for 2S2P.

Wiring in series doubles voltage, 2S = 2 X 3.7v = 7.4v nominal, but keeps the capacity the same. If these were 1S 5000mah cells, wired together, you'd have a 7.4v 2S 5000mah lipo. When you wire in parallel, voltage doesn't change, but capacity doubles. So the 2S2P if made from 5000mah cells would be a 7.4v 2S 10,000mah (2x5000) lipo. Running in parallel is typically done to increase run time.

2S 9000 x 28C = 252,000 divide 1000 = 252 amps
2S 8000 x 28C = 224,000 divide 1000 = 224 amps
3S 5200 x 40C = 208,000 divide 1000 = 208 amps
2S 4700 x 25C = 117,500 divide 1000 = 117.5 amps
I run in my Summit.. ^ Requires proper gearing^

( mah x c rating / 1000 = amps),

The
more amps the better / minimun of 120 amps.

The ESC will only draw the amount of amps it needs.

Higher the mAh the longer the runtime.
For brushless systems 8000 mAh about 45 min & a 5000 mAh about 30 min.
Times are longer for brushed systems.

Batts in series double the voltage:
2x 2s 20c 5000mah = 4s 20c 5000mah

Batts in parallel double the mah capacity:
2x 2s 20c 5000mah = 2s 20c 10,000mah.

A temp gun is kind of a must have.....

Hot motor + cool esc = under geared.
Cool motor + hot esc = over geared
Everything warm just right..

Motor ~ 180/190*F maximum, ideally 140/160*F, temps can be 10* higher inside the motor
ESC ~ pretty much same temps / Fan comes on @ 150*F
Lipo's ~ 140*F max, ideally 100/120*F

Besure to check sizing before you buy any batteries...

In time some batteries will become discontinued...

No particular order as to good, better, or best....

With larger Lipo battery wires, you might need to - enlarge the exit hole on battery doors....
or run wires out the vents..

I'm looking for 4S total and 5000mah. If I take 2 batteries, both 2s 5000mah and connect them in series to the ESC, then I get 4S total and 5000mah, correct? If I take 2 batteries, both 2S2P 5000mah, and connect them in series to the ESC, I end up with the same thing do I not? 4S total and 5000mah.

One way you'll get 2s 5000mah + 2s 5000mah = 4s 5000mah ( which is what you want )

other way ( which you won't use... ) 2s 5000mah + 2s 5000mah = 2s 10000 mah

5. he is correct...

just make sure (most are) the battery you pick says 7.4v 2s. Get two batts & plug them in. The Stock ESC is wired in series, so you will have 2/2s = 4s... good to go..
