Did a complete overhaul. How much grease should I put on the ring gear? I got the differentials where the spider or small gears are filled properly but the main or ring gear I am in question of. I coated the ring and pinion gear in grease (lucas red and tacky) ran the truck and then disassembled and checked. It looked too dry after one pack soo I added more now it wants to push out around the bearings for the drive axles. I know its not the OIL leaking because its red and too thick.
Just a light coat around the ring gear. Rotate the pinion gear a few times to spread it out. Doesn't take much grease.
Sent from Mars Curiosity.
I put none in the differentials and fill those with oil instead.
For the ring gear a light coat is all that is needed.
Thats what I thought judging from what was there originally but I was worried about it going dry so I added more mabye too much.
No worries if you got to much, it will just sling it off.
I dont usually use the Traxxas grease. I just coat them lightly with sprayable lithium.
T A makes a very nice product for this application called black grease #6588

I fixed another fellas merv and ordered the traxxas grease myself. I started to clean and tear down our other diffs since I was bored.
