Is the sidewinder 3 SCT motor and esc combo good for off-road and on road In a slash 2wd? Also, would a nimh 5000kv running in this with everything else stock go 40 mph. Thanks to everyone for helping, I am new.
I an talking abut the sidewinder 3 3800kv motor and esc combo.
5000kv is too much for off-road. The higher the kv of a motor the more RPM and less torque. I run a Sidewinder SCT/3800kv combo and I get cool temps and good speed.
More RC cars than the character limit allows...
(A Nimh 5000kv battery would be GIANT, like the size of a tractor trailer)
HIGHLY recommend the CC 3800 system! I am running three of them right now, two are powering 3800 brushless motors (2WD and 4WD Slashes), and the 3rd is pushing a 45T crawler motor. They are very tunable, and very easy to tune with the fieldlink or Castlelink.
Do not recommend NiMH batteries with this system. A NiMH battery only delivers around 10-15C, where you cheaper Lipo packs put out 25C. The CC system tries to pull more power from the battery than what it can deliver, overstressing your NiMH pack, which makes it get very hot. Thermal stress kills a NiMH battery faster than anything.

hey greatscott, what gearing do you use in the 2wd slash?
i'm running a SW3 with 4600kv motor on 16/86 both will switch to the SCT/3800 combo.
what gearing would be best to have equal speed with that combo? 23/86?
