Is there anything special about the 'reverse rotation' motor out of the brushed eRevo other than the wires are soldered on opposite tabs than the standard motor?
I have an eMaxx transmission I am using for a custom build and have found a deal on a pair of eRevo motors - of course the one is reverse rotation. My question is if I can simply wire the reverse one backwards and use it alongside the other? Being a 'stock' motor I don't expect there to be a lot of built in timing or anything so it shouldn't be a problem but thought I should ask first..

Running the reversed motor (with timing advanced) with the polarity swapped will result in a slower, less efficient, hotter motor.

I was in the same shoes at one time and had a paid of reverse motors in an e-maxx transmission. ksb51rl is right. The motors have built in advance timing and running them backwards will reduce power, runtime, speed, as well and run hot. The motors are the same as the "forward" ones but wired and timed backwards.
However there is a solution. The transmission will run fine backwards. Just flip your diffs so that they reverse the direction your driveshaft spins.
Reversed motors + Reversed diffs = normal driving.
