Can I put a Velineon 3500 or a castle 2200kv in a 1/16?
I don't have a 1/16 car, is just for know if it fits.
The 3500kv will fit but not well. Its a BIG motor (LONG). The castle 1406 series motors fit MUCH better with the 4600kv 1406 motor being an excellent choice for a 1/16.
The 2200kv has been put in a 1/16 but its just a TERRIBLE idea IMO. Its HUGE and HEAVY, way bigger than the 3500kv VXL motor. The guy who did it, just did it for fun. Its not at all useable. Keep in mind, you have to get ESC's that will power these motors to fit also. The best fitting 1/10 ESC's are the EZrun 35amp and the Castle SV2... they can be made to fit quite well and will power most 1/10 motors.

The castle 1406 series motors will have more power. They are 4 pole VS the VXL's 2 pole. They do require that you run 2 packs in parallel though as they NEED alot of amps.
The 7,700 kv will run really hot unless you gear way down. That and you are limited to 2s. It's better to run a low kv motor and get good batteries with a high C rating so your motor/esc will be happy. This is, of course, the simple explanation. A whole book could be written about different combos and their usages. In summary, get lower kv and just gear up as needed.
I am planning on installing a 10.5t Ballistic 540 motor with the Edge ESC from Novak. This is a fairly high KV motor at 4,200. The stock VXL motor is 4000Kv motor but the bigger motor has more power. I plan to gear this so that I can maximize top speed with a 2s battery and so that the temps are low enough. Today I am running the VXL with a 23t pinion and it gets hot but not too hot. With the 10.5t I can increase to a larger pinion for higher speeds without higher temps. It will also run smoother with the sensored motor design.

i had a 3500kv in mine it was fast!!!
Doesn't sound like a good idea to put a 1/10 scale motor and esc in a 1/16 car... :/

Slash VXL, Rally VXL, and Stampede 4x4 VXL.
I have a castle sidewinder v2 7700kv motor in my Kyle truck with stock gearing and run a 1500 2s.....thing is wicked fast and temps are good. Yes it may be overkill but it sure is fun!!
I have a sv2 on order, if I get the 1406 4600k I will need to change motor mounts right? I have extra 380 motors and was going to run them 3s with the sv2 but I'm new to this, so will I fry my 380's I do have telemetry temp sensors with the alarm but don't know what they can handle before they are toast that is I leaning toward the 1406 4600k I've read they run cooler. Second question how much can the 380 take before frying heat wise?
For the motor you need the motor mount, heat sink and other stuff as they are stock in the brushed 1/16 versions.
Brushless motors are safe up to around 180F. At 200F the magnets will lose their power permanently.
The Velineon 380 motor can handle 3S. The Sv2 might get hot on 3S, so you better keep an eye on that too.
Nobody is born with experience
Excuse my ignorance if I run 2s with the svt will the esc work without over heating I was going to run 3s just for speed runs. Thanks for you info I'm trying to search for answers but I get alot of random results not really pertains to my questions.
