Wow, that is coming along great...very nice.
Got my old mans electronic books and slowly teaching myself, hopefully I will be able to build a quarter of what you got, otherwise I am just going to get an fpv goggle and its components. But it would be a challenge
Your build is really an education by itself....

Just took off my old spacers put the original hubs back on.

Glued up the tires, I put a dab of glue above each spoke (6 spokes) and that very tidely glued them all up nicely. Just ran them and they're almost perfectly balanced! Not bad not bad not bad.

Going to be great once I get this thing wired up in the next couple days.

My hands are covered in ca glue No idea how that happened the ONLY place I got it was in the wheels cleanly, annnd my thumbs !

Thanks Jezza, means a lot! As for the self educating, with youtube and google, there's never been a better time! Keep at it =)

    Jimmie, wat?

    Oo! Never saw this before.

The Approach and departure ARE indeed excellent haha!

As for the break over, it's not much better than that Rubicon But I do have about 6" with the suspension fully extended.

    I know I know I know!

Between life, sleep and waiting on eBay this build has certainly gone on far too long. I should be at mark 9 by now but instead I've just yet to build mark 1!!

The rear is virtually complete, the three receivers are mounted and the three antennas mounted on the rear left side of the car. New larger project boxes received and used there to hold everything. All the servo wires come in from underneath the boxes - not yet in this picture.

    Here's the camera officially mounted!

Really happy with this new smaller front bumper!

Hey its me again, I recently got my FPV kit in, it works quite well.

I do need some guidance on antennas for my 900mhz vtx/rx though, as I'd like my range to be a bit better. My range was dramatically better with the Rx/tx up high. The cool part is to take it off is only 3 zip ties..

I LOVE driving FPV, it is really amazing to sit in my bedroom and drive around the neighborhood.

I really want to see video from that!

I've been AFK for awhile, have been feeling super guilty about this build! I got side tracked on a few projects and my main car keeps me too busy with all it's PLASTIC COOLANT COMPONENTS eugh.

However, I stepped away easily because this wiring is very daunting! There is SO MUCH wiring on this car thanks to all the lights, transmitter, gps, receivers, cameras, switches etc.. uh yi yi! On paper it's one thing, but in reality it's another and it's one of these things that if I do it THIS way I'll have to do THAT another way, or if I do it THIS way I'll need to do THIS ANOTHER way. I just need to commit, and I plan on getting back to it tomorrow or Wednesday and getting this build finished once and for all! Besides, it's raining for the next week and all the snow is almost all finally gone!

One concern is still the remote control. I have three transmitters that need to all be working and for now I'll just have them as three separate controllers, but really want to move forward on this base station build! I have a 3D printer and some labels, so perhaps I can just print out the layout I was building before and just cover it with vinyl. We'll see, when the time comes.

Thanks guys! Sorry Crock, the base station remote itself is very electronics heavy, and it's scary stuff to me for sure.

I have been playing with the wiring for the OSD/GPS on the car itself, and it's just all so tight with very little room at all. Right now I'm kinda down because the TILT servo has quite a bit of play on it, when I rock the car back and forth the cameras kinda shake/rock. Not good at all, but again it's an $11 or something stupid like that, servo from eBay. I can always put a high quality servo in there later on.

I... just... can't... bring... myself to move on with this project! It's killing me! My desk is still filled with all these servos and wires and connectors and camera equipment as a sort of push, "JUST.. DO IT!" but every time I look at the car sitting behind me all pretty like on its stand I can't help but be put off by the amount of wiring needed and the fact that I need the ground station to be put together still! So much time and money and effort involved and I've given up!? No not quite but MAN is it hard to get back in to the swing of things. Hoping that by posting here I'll force myself to do it!

I apologize for lying to everyone saying, "any day now!" for the past couple years. This vehicle has been the very DEFINITION of, "hobby."

No worries, that's the norm. I work on my truck about three times as much as I drive it. It not that's its broken, there is just no finish line for self created upgrades. Its just a constant " create and improve, create and improve" cycle.

I'm sorry to say, no there isn't.

Every single day I see it and think, "I really gotta get back to work on this! The guys on the forum are going to hate me!"

My desk is still littered in servos, cameras, batteries and everything it's horrible. For some reason I just can't get back in to the project! I've been so focused on my real car and social life that I haven't made time for it. When I finally HAVE time I get flustered with the amount of wiring that needs to be done and the fact that the ground station still hasn't been put together. There's really only about a weeks worth of solid work left with it, but as I said I'm having huge motivation issues. Strange I know.

I **WILL** finish it, I just need to be in the proper head space as to not simply rush it and botch it up. I can't believe it's already the middle of August!

Thanks for the comments though =)

    Heya!

Funny enough I just fixed my soldering iron to get back to work on it yesterday.

Between the actual control console ground station and about 43 other things I didn't know where to start back and instead wentto see a movie haha!

I'm sure I'll have something on this soon!

This is exactly how I feel on my jet Spartan build... Lol social life does take a huge toll on your hobbies. I love this build man! Gonna take awhile to read through it all! Lol good luck getting it finished! I believe rcsparks did this on a slash or a crawler. I can't remember what it was but fpv crawling sounds as fun if not more fun than a fpv quad!

I just wanted to say thanks because your build gave me the push to start my fpv summit project... Not as fancy as yours but still pretty awesome! I've orderer parts, it will be 4 wheel steering, gimbal controlled gopro plugged to a 1.2ghz 900mW tx and finally 9XR transmitter with screen mounted on it (or maybe fpv google).
The design is inspired by you
Can't wait to start a new thread about this!! I just feel like you when you started this build, like a little kid excited to wake up on Christmas day :P

    Thumbs up

Have you started a thread for your build yet!? I'm so glad I was an inspiration, that was the entire idea of this thread in the first place! =)

    *****

    Hello.

Oh look, it's February - AGAIN - and I've just started back to work on this. I read through the thread and got really excited, and other than the fact that I wiped out my car the other day AND I need to clean my desk, I have no better reason to get back to work on this!

Looking at building some armor. Will need to order new parts, but toying with the idea right now.

Also, I'm thinking WHITE with black text will be better / easier for me to do on my OWN instead of depending on other companies that kept delaying me more and more and more.

I just bought a new account with Photobucket, because my ImageShack account was cancelled back in October and now they want $40 or something, geeet outta here!

Anyway, I'm stoked! Keep an eye on this =)

Thanks guys, as I said; I'm really excited to be back on to this project. I forgot how much gear I actually have for it! I have all kinds of transmitters and receivers and servos and oh man so many cool things! My issue was GIRLS and my car. Now that my car is sleeping for a while, and girls .. well we've all been there, I have plenty of ME time! =D

As for what jamann was talking about, my car spun out the other day: Here what I tried to do didn't work thanks to traction control as you can see in THIS video (first clip shows what I MEANT to do, second shows what.. I really did)

Oh well, I'm saving $30 a day in gas and $50 a day by not heading out for drinks and dinner SO this project has all kinds of funding again hahaha =)

Doing some testing today, I ended up scorching my tiles!! I pulled the car up to my foot and blocked it, then spun out.. I saw smoke, it was coming from the rubber, as I backed away there are these two black spots burned in to my tile floor. I'm a dead man!!

The big Mud Slingers are to blame haha.

Anyway, got the 4WS finalized and calibrated, works incredibly well! With such a long wheel base, I CERTAINLY need it to turn around in a small area, "normal" front-wheel-only steering is virtually useless in an area less than 20x20'

The four steering servos I have are good for 230oz-in each, so 460oz-in per axle is pretty tough on the little MMP BEC so I'm using the Castle 10Amp for the steering off my Traxxas 1400 3s mini battery. So cool to see the thing in action, but with wires all over the place right now I couldn't move more than a few feet.

The video shows the steering before I calibrated it - the rear turned sharper than the fronts, I just had to make an adjustment on HeyOK steering computer =)

Haha yeah except my camera costs $80 not $600 and my screen cost $100 not $800 :P So for the price you've paid to have your iphone and ipad you could have 6 or 7 fpv systems!

Let alone lag at 50mph (I live in the middle of the countryside so there aren't any towers close by)

Working on a way to come up with how to mount the front "armor" with it's multi-angle-mounting-problem . . . I figured this was a cool shot to share:

Ssssssssssooo y'knoooow how I always do this whole, "Hey I'm totally going to finish it this next week!" thing? Ya, well.. I'm going to buy a CNC machine. I'm sick of thinking, "OH MAN IF ONLY" and my 3D printer is good for PARTS but not... well certain parts.

To be able to cut out shapes and whatever from ABS sheets will not only let me build my ground station correctly, it will let me do the armor stuff, braces/brackets and whatever else I need! I've settled on the Fireball V90. It's big enough to make my ground station and affordable enough to justify itself.

    Who's excited?

But now....... I have to learn a whole new world of things eeek.

I would like to know if you are aware of the existence of thermo plastic? you know, that stuff called polymorph on ebay and that can be modeled like play doh when heated above 60C...
I recently bought some and it's just awesome for diy project, you can do about anything and it's a solution to those who can't afford 3d printing like me :P

Yeah that stuff is pretty awesome! Is that YOUR project? It's awesome!

Learning new 3D CAM stuff is taking all my time awake and asleep eugh, (CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing) so I'm learning a few new software packages to make sure I actually CAN do all of this heh.

Well I've been working away - basically since my last post - learning all the new CAM software and getting everything ordered. It's all in the mail: Router from NY, Machine from a store in Illinois and Motors, Controllers etc from another store in Illinois, and the main brain from Germany, and a few other bits.

Point is, I've had some time to re-think the main camera pod.

    As such:

It's still a Summit at heart!

There are a few bits I'm not sure about yet, such as the "chin" on the camera mount. There are two cameras in the center line now, and I'm not sure how I can CNC it correctly using SHEETS of ABS. I may need to actually buy a large CHUNK of material and actually CNC the entire thing. We'll see once I get it all setup - next week some time when it's all here.

I'm pretty stoked though! I'm also ordering a new DVR. The one I got - P2Z - doesn't start to record automatically, and doesn't save the file if the power is lost.. kind of defeats the power of a DVR if it doesn't actually save

Ah well. What's ANOTHER $100 haha hmmmmmmm

Also I've been working on getting my Zoom cam functional with my remote using the HeyOk zoom cam control Al made me way back when. I'm WORRIED I may have blown the thing though, I need to keep working on it.

It will be used for....... giving me something to do for a few hours. And then I'll be bored and on to the next thing no doubt hah. That's what I'm afraid of, perhaps it's why it's taking forever to complete?

It's just been an exercise in learning and keeping my brain busy. No real end-goal for it really other than a sense of accomplishment! =)
