I have installed the Big Bore shocks on my Rustler VXL with 40wt oil and the included progressive rate springs. I really like the idea of the progressive rate springs, but the are too soft on the rear even with the largest preload spacer it sits just below level. Does Traxxas make a stiffer prog rate spring (my springs are white with a red dash on the top). I am getting an aluminum gear case, and I think this sag will get worse. I saw slash prog rate springs with different color dashes on them...are these different stiffnessess (if that is a word)? and will they work on a Rusty? I also have the white stock Bandit rear springs, and Rustler black springs. Does anybody know the progression of these different colors...white, black, red, prog rt blue dash, red dash, black dash?
I have the big bores with the red dash pro. springs on my rusty. I thought that the springs were too soft and I put the solid black springs on there. I thought I needed a little more stiffness due to my new aluminum gear box. The black springs ran fine except I got a lot of traction roll overs. I put the red dash prog springs back on and it worked fine. The sag from an alum gearbox is minimal. Today I just posted a thread on the VG Racing progressive springs for the rustler that I saw in a magazine. I think I might try them, but would like to hear if anyone has tried them first. here is the link.

From AMainHobbies: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...Springs-Blue-2
Orange: 20% softer than stock
Green: 10% softer than stock
Blue: 20% stiffer than stock
Pink: 10% stiffer than stock
As big bores will fit both Rustler and Slash I assume that springs will fit too. This Traxxas spring rate issue has been a little mystery as for some reason Traxxas has never listed (or I have not found) their spring rates like some other brands do.

and at least there are springs with red marks so I also assume that those are so called "stocks".
If this goes complicated you can try Losi springs as they have nice charts with rates. 2 for front and 2.5 for rear:
I'm pretty sure that the red dash are the only springs that will fit the big bore retainers. If you get the other traxxas springs you will have to get THESE retainers for the ultra shocks. The big bores are a little bit more narrow. With those retainers the spring will go on the big bores with no problem.

If you want stiffer and good bashing I would use the Integy Slash Progressive set. Item T8088/T8087 Use the red or the blacks the orange are REALLY stiff.
