Best method for locking diff and my set up & mods
I have just purchased the Funny car and am curious about the rear diff. The other drag cars I own are straight axle. Are you folks locking the diff? Or changing fluid weight? I have also modded the RLC wheelie bar and used 2 traxxas mini aluminum wheels with bearings. Also have all Traxxas aluminum upgrades except turnbuckles, added metal gear servo w/ alum servo horn and titanium turnbuckles. Steel 68t spur. Most of the telemetry installed. Headers and F/R Traxxas weld wheels. Powered w lipo 3s 75c 6500mah. Have just as much fun setting up as running it. DTS-1 just showed up but have not tried it.
Looks like a nice forum and hope to meet folks with same interests.
I will post pics as soon as I figure out process
Thanks for looking
if you have a free photo bucket account ,,, when you reply click on the INSERT IMAGE icon at the top of the reply box ,,,,then from your photo bucket page with the picture you want on screen ,,,,on the right side click on the IMG line ,,,,it will say copied ....then paste in the img slot in the reply that you clicked on to add the picture ...and then
I like to click go advanced in the reply box and preview post to see if its right ,,then if all good submit post and done ,,,,
if you get it going post some pictures and tell the description of your upgrades ...sounds very interesting.
Thanks for the tips on posting. Hope the pic dize and format is ok. Here is the wheelie bar w/duel bearings per wheel. The braces and misc parts are from my crawler left overs. Think I will have it all together tonite and test this weekend. I got some traxxas steel 14mm hexs today but they dont fit wheels quite right and require some rounding off, for the T maxx i think. I will post more pics soon
That Gremlin is nice!!
This was my first attempt to change wheelie bar set up
It is easier to change height of bar with turnbuckle but I have plenty of adjustment with current setup
I like the looks of the dual wheel wheelie bar ...do the dual wheels affect how straight your funnycar runs down the strip?
until I get better at not crashing I usually swap back to the original funny car body to make runs ,,, then the gremlin gets runs not quit so often.....keep the pictures of your up grades coming ...
here is a shot of the driver/battery hold down for the 8400 mah 3s ...
I have only tried car a few times and its all over the place so I cant say the dbl wheels really help.
Going to try DTS1 today and hope to get some good track runs. Did you do any changes to the diff?
I haven't done anything to the diff ,YET.
I am waiting till I need to open it up for maintenance or something needs attention but the first time I need to open it up I am going to lock it..as for the single or double wheelie bar wheels ,,,I am wanting to get all the parts I need to change back and forth so I can see what is best for my needs ,,,, I think that there a few factors that I want to think about when deciding on dual or single wheel ,,,,,like ,,the road in front of my house is very rough so in that case is a single wheel better,, and if I run on very smooth surface the drag of the wheelie bar should be less so I want dual wheels ,,I am also wandering if larger wheels will be more helpful . my runs are also all over the place ,,I think my problem is like my daughter said ...
I just need to learn to drive, lol ,,,, the more I do to my car the pickier I get ... the last few runs , I went to our local airport and they let me run on the spare runway ...it seems the hardest part for me is finding a smooth drag strip that I can run on when I want that is close to my house , right now its drive 5 miles to the airport or nothing ,,, its definitely worth the drive for a smooth track.,,, when/if you lock your diff post a pic of the insides and how you lock it ...in my bandit I just bought a locking spool made just for inside the diff gear ...I wonder if someone makes one for the traxxas funnycar?....
I want to get the DTS but I don't know of anyone else in my town with a funny car so I am concentrating on upgrades/mods.
Getting front end set up. I managed to ruin stock servo first day out
Thought about trying to put metal gears in traxxas servo
so is that servo a metal gear servo or did you put metal gears in it?
Its a metal gear servo. I will look at putting the metal gears in the traxxas housing 2080 as it is a better fit.
I had to dremel the servo mount just to get the "Other" servo in place. Screw holes line up and its almost a match in size but the power wire exits out the side.
Plans changed today so no play time but I did get the dts updated and linked
