So I had a faulty lipo that after it charged I went for a burn. I placed the lipo in the slash and turned it on BUT no forward or reverse, ESC had blown. So I plugged the lipo into another car and before it took of it went click and blew the motor.
So my question is despite charging ok and no swelling (at this point ) how can I tell if my lipo is faulty or bad. Can they reverse polarity? I would assume a multi meter would be used but.......
A multi meter can monitor each cell and also the total voltage.
Also you can check the oms of each cell and the total.
charged is 4.2 volts per cell
store at 3.85 volts
discharged is 3.5-3.0 volts per cell depending on your Low Voltage Cutoff
Never ever go below 3.0 volts per cell b/c the battery will change polarity
The only real way to tell if a battery is bad is if it discharges unequally and by a large amount.
If you get it out of the car and it reads 3.50, 3.48, 3.48 would be fine IMO.
Something like 3.33, 3.48, 3.48 would be bad. While it still may work, the weak cell would cause major voltage sag and not allow you to wheelie or have as much punch as a better battery would.
Its All relative to your perspective.
