    Ultimate Raptor Roll Bar

So I build the Ultimate Raptor Merv here - http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...te-Raptor-Merv

Then had a great time taking some sweet action shots here - http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...Raptor-bashing

As a result I learned a few things that I thought I would share with everyone.

    1. Velcro body mounts although clean, do come off with 3S wipe outs : )
    2. Once your body is off your, and your still wiping out, electronics will suffer from road rash.
    3. The Raptor bodies are not super durable, compared to the stock shell

So - I soon realized that a roll bar was a necessity for my style of driving, however no one makes a roll bar that fits under the Raptor body.

Here is what I fabbed up today using some 1/4" aluminum rod, a brake line bender, drill, 3mm tap and the left over stainless screws from my stainless Merv screw kit.

It think it came out pretty well and fits under the Raptor body perfectly, keeping my electronics protected during the unfortunate carnage that ensues when you combine a heavy trigger finger and 3S.

This is by far the most fun I have had modifying an RC, ever. 1/16 is a blast!

Now that is a sale worth part right there... easily the most professional looking custom roll bar I've ever seen. You need to go over to the 1/10 summit forum and start making some $$

Indeed very cool. I'm not into the raptors, buts thats one masterpiece of work.
I always dig this DiY solutions more than factory stuff.

What material did you use for the the tubings?

    Thanks guys

I just had to build a Raptor version to match my real one (yes I am spoiled, my wife actually talked me into buying it!)

If the roll bar did not take forever to make I would sell them (this one took me most of the day)

The roll bar is 1/4" aluminum - not heavy at all

The wheel and tire combo is 1/16 Summit Geode wheels and Losi Mini-Zombie tires.

My real Raptor is a 2010 x-cab Molten orange with graphics - I love every minute i get to drive it.
I painted my Merv body to match - now i can drive a Raptor twice as often : )

the shocks are the Exotec Big Bores. I modified aluminum chassis braces to work with them too so they sit up just a bit higher than if installed without the braces, I think this makes them look even bigger in pictures. The handling with these is top notch. i put 100wt oil in them and feel that its perfect for bashing. might be a little over dampened for racing though. i really dig the way they look too.

Oh wow lol. I have 60wt oil and purple springs on traxxas GTR shocks. Thought my setup was going to be too stiff lol.

The Exotec's come with 80wt in them so 100wt is not too much a step up from factory. keep in mind that the piston holes play a large part in the weight of oil you need to get the desired dampening. its highly possible that the Exotec pistons have much larger holes in them than the GTRs.

I do - I have built 3 full custom crawlers - Twin Force axle super, a USA 1 gear boxed Super and a Losi micro crawler (that looks like a Raptor) - I will see if i can dig up some photos if anyone is interested. I love custom rigs.

Sorry guys - if I had jigs and such to make them the same each time i would make a bunch for you guys but making them by hand, trial and error and all is not a very good business plan : ). thanks for the comments though

thanks for some ideas. i need a rollcage badly because of my cooling mod (2 fans on the inside of the body) and by landing on the roof the mounting bolts beat and scratch my motor

Hey coach try putting Velcro on your battery try doors that's where mine is and I have yet to have the body come completely off. It has come close but not off.

that's what i have - the velcro on the body posts is just the soft side of the velcro to protect the body paint. I guess I just play hard - https://traxxas.com/forums/showthrea...Raptor-bashing
