Traxxas 1 16 Summit VXL Gearing and Tire Help Please.

I have a question I use a Traxxas 1 16 mini summit VXL and I desperately need your help guys. So i am planning on buying the proline titus wheels with the dirt hawg tires but I want to change out the wheels on the car so more bigger tires so do you guys have any suggestions to what tires would make my mini summit taller and look more "normal" like stock height I guess??? The tires use also fit nicely onto the titus bead-lock rims. Also I run my summit vxl with dual stock batteries and with a few upgrades like the battery door are aluminum and the gear cover is aluminum and the axle carriers are aluminum and the shocks are integy piggy back aluminum shocks and the long travel rocker arms are also aluminum and a front and a rear chassis brace and aluminum bell crank steering and aluminum push and tie rods and the heatsink but if i get the new wheels and tires it add on a lot of extra weight but I just want it to run at stock speed i guess cuz its already pretty fast so since my batteries I use are dual stock and with all the added weight of the aluminum parts above how should i gear my summit vxl now? please answer in as much detail as possible. Surprisingly the added on aluminum parts don't add a lot or too much weight to my car. Please help though. Also one more question. Dos the mini e revo's integy aluminum cvd's fit onto the summit perfectly with the same ride height and without screwing up the suspension?

Just the extra weight of the rims is going to cause heat issues.
This is a proven fact. Many Titus rims are sitting on shelves collecting dust.

Although it may seem like the alloy is not adding much weight, every gram adds rolling resistance which in turn adds stress to the electronics which in turn causes heat issues.

I see fried electronics in your future!

Are you trying to make this look to scale?
I really did not clearly understand your tire question.

Any CVD or steel type MERV axle will have pop out issues in a MiniSummit.
I would stay away from Integy axles. EVERYONE that has bought (and used) them has destroyed them.

Gearing can only be figured out by you and your temp gun.
If it is too hot, gear down. If it is cold & slow and you want to go faster, gear up.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

Thanks with all my aluminum parts and my brushless heatsink it keeps my temperature around 70-80 degrees celicius stock so stock gearing on the summit vxl is 28:50 should I bring it down to 25?

Since shipping/gas is usually more expensive than the pinion...

I would get a 26,24,22 and the other two spurs you don't have.
(sorry that I am not sure what came stock with your MSummet)
This would give you a wide choice of gear ratios.

Stock mini Summit VXL comes with 16t pinion and 50t spur. 28t pinion (if it exists at all) would fry the ESC in 1 minutes...

28 tooth is factory installed on a MERV.

    Hi everyone...

Sorry for using this topic, but no need a new one, i think...

I have a 1/16 Summit with a Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro with a Nosram 6.5T with 5500KV.

What should be the best gearing??

For now i only have 45 and 50 spur but many pinions...
But i will buy more spurs and pinions if needed...

    Hope someone can help me...

    P.S.: Sorry for my English....

The absolute best way to figure out what gearing works best... especially since you already have a selection of spurs and pinions... is to pick up a temperature gun and adjust according to the temperature. That is the only way to find out what works best for you... there are way too many variables for anyone to be able to pick out what gearing works best for you without temperature information.

    Hi, thanks for reply...

    Your right...
But as i dont have much experience on this spur/pinion thing i thought it was best ask for some help...

With 50/21 the esc fan started and motor was a bit hot on 3s...

Should i start first with the 50 or 55 spur??
    Or best is the 45??
    2s or 3s??

Just to start on a base...

    The wheels are stock...

2S is best. 3S is only for short speed runs on flat ground with the stock ESC.

Start with 55/18ish... that is stock (I think) for a Summit.

Ya, 2s is more then enought for summit...
3s ill use only on my MERV...

Since i only have for now the 45 and 50 spur, maybe 45 is a bit small since the stock for summit is 55, right?

So ill try the 50 with the lowest pinion i have that is 17 or 18 and going up.
Or since i already tryed the 28, now should go to 26 or 25, maybe its better...

50/25 is hot as well esc 70C a bit quick and motor arround 40C to 45C...
The batery worms too, to about 40C...

So, should i go up, to 50/30, 30 is the bigger i have at moment...
Or try smaller pinions, like 22 or 20??

Or change the spur from 50 to 45??

You are going in the wrong direction.

    Bigger pinion = MORE heat
    Smaller spur = MORE heat
