    My NEU MERV build

After being disappointed with my Savage XS build after breaking many stock and aftermarket drive shafts, I wanted to start another MINI build with a MERV. This will be mainly for jumps in my drive way and occasional speed runs on 3s max. I ordered a few parts below to start me off and still deciding if I should pick up a cvd and turnbuckle set:

    MERV Roller
Traxxas Mini 1/16 Revo Slash Steel Machined Hollow Balls (item# TRA7028X)
Traxxxas Mini 1/16 Revo Slash Rocker Arm Ball Bearings (item# TOYZ98)
Traxxas Mini 1/16 Revo Slash Steering Ball Bearing Set (item# TOYZ202)
Traxxas Mini 1/16 Revo Slash Black Aluminum Rear Chassis Brace (item# TOYZ 94 BLACK)
Traxxas Mini 1/16 Revo Slash Front Black Aluminum Chassis Brace (item# TOYZ 93 BLACK)
Traxxas 7022 Chassis, Mini 1/16 Rally Racer, Revo
    RPM Knuckles - Axle Carriers (2) 73162
RPM Front Suspension Arm Set BL 80692, 1/16 MINI REVO
RPM Rear Suspension Arm Set BL 80602, 1/16 MINI REVO
RPM Rear Bumper Black 73992, 1/16 MINI REVO
RPM Front Bumper Black 73982, 1/16 MINI REVO
Traxxas 7061X GTR Aluminum Hard Ano. Shock Set
HPI Universal 1/10 2.2 MT Mesh Truck Wheels Black 2196
ProLine 3360-00 Clear F-150 SVT Raptor Body, 1/16 Mini Revo
    ProLine Speed Hawg M2 Tire 2.2 1/10 Truck Ft/Rr 1080-00
    Traxxas 7148 GTR Shock Spring(2) 2.22, 1/16 MINI E-REVO
    Traxxas 7147 GTR Shock Spring(2) 2.06, 1/16 MINI E-REVO

Here are the fist group of parts that arrived today:

Here's my electronic setup with another NEU 1112 1.5D motor. I loved this combo on my Rally build and wanted to duplicate it. I am using a VAPOR PRO ESC that I pulled from my XS which is pretty much a waterproof SV2 with a fan.

Here's a rough cut of the chassis for a test fit before dyeing it. I will only be running this on 3s so I don't need the other battery storage.

I hope you have better luck with your truck, it's a hit or miss with the XS owners. I agree, it is a better handling truck out of the box. The only issue I've had is durability. My friend and I ran it in a skate park and after 10 minutes of landing high jumps, both trucks started making a grinding noise along with broken universal cvds after:

You need to add a T-Bone chassis brace & bumpers to your list.

I was hoping I wouldn't need it with both chassis brace. I know my full t-bone setup on my Rally saved the chassis on speed runs. Yeah, why not...it's added to my wish list

While that may be true, I will say this.
Ive never, and I mean NEVER had a problem with ANY HR aluminum product, from my Losi Micro to the Traxxas replacements. You have just as much possibility for any of the other parts to have a defect of its own...

Thanks for the input fellas. I guess the RPM knuckles I ordered before can go on my Rally or my kids MERV. For those that use the T-Bone on their MERV, Did you go with the full bottom cover or just the front and rear setup? I hope the speed hawgs on RPM claws will not rub. Either way, I'll order these tonight...if they don't fit then my son's MERV will be hopped up instead.

i like hr products, but their knuckles have a higer fail rate than any other knuckle out there, that is why i will not endorse them

also, their servo saver sucks, but all the aftermarket ones do --- so not their fault

i love my hr front body mount

Pillow balls pop out of them on a regular basis... multiple times/run.

The stock servo saver works when properly maintained... it needs to be taken apart and cleaned every once in a while... sometimes a washer added to tighten up the spring.

I suggest getting a single, stronger servo and making it water resistant over a dual servo setup.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

I guess the case for the Vapor Pro is a bit wider than the SV2, I was hoping it would tuck inside the battery door. I might have to pick up another SV2 and use this on my winter project.

The only parts that came in today, too bad it wasn't for the MERV...

where do you have the clearance issues?
i use paddles on trx dish, i know the hpi mesh have a greater offset than the trx dish. only area i had clearance was with my t bone front bumper, but after some creative trimming its all good now

    Sweet looking black truck

I think you will have an issue running a single pack

Packs this size are not capable of pumping out the amps required with decent motors

You would likely be able to fit that Vapor ESC in if you had Integy battery doors... they create more overall mounting depth for the battery compartment.

Well I just changed my plans. I'm ditching the Low COG idea with the MERV and will just mount a MMP instead. I picked up 4 BOOST LIPO packs to run in parallel.

Just a thought... I realize many will likely diagree... but I went with the GPM steel links as well and I hate them. Ive gone back to the stockers with steel balls. The GPM steel pushrods and links are strong in the steel part, but the end break alot. which is annoying. the stockers are strong and don't break. I died mine black and haven't had an issue since I switched back to them. just a thought.

Yeah, I picked up the steel Hollow balls (it was on my first order above) to use with the stock links as backup. This was on my first Revo setup and it was great in the beginning but will eventually bend and not hold its shape or that's what it looks like on my son's MERV now. From reading the reviews, the GPMs were designed to have the ends to be the weak point so I picked up extra link ends replacements. The only complaint I have about them are they are pretty heavy.

Thanks bud! I'm went with the 380 sized NEU 1112 motor vs. the BB. After building this, I just realized that I should have just picked up the first MERV you posted for sale. Oh well, half the fun is building it right?

Good decision. Having a really low center of gravity is a lost cause with the Mini Revo. The motor placement is where the weight problem is and the ESC doesn't really weigh that much. Having two packs to run in parallel is much better for upgraded motors.

The CVD package finally came in....

Painted the body however I wasn't happy with the allignment, the wheel well in the front is way off so it went to my son's MERV instead. I painted a second body that is pushed forward....

My ESC mount made from thin metal that I had laying around....

Chassis brace, GTR shocks, Tan (front) and Black (rear) spring, bearings installed...

    STRC and HR motor mount..

RPM, GPM knuckles and rods installed...
