I live in Australia but my dad will be in New York next week for 3-4 days.
I want to buy some things from Tower Hobbies and was wondering how long in general post would take from there to New York?
No idea where he is staying in New York but I would guess it would be the main/business district..
Thanks in advance
Its hard for me to say for sure becaue I live in Canada.. But I know I can pay big $$$ and have stuff sent 2 day and even bigger $$$ and have it over-nighted to me.. thats always an option for you
Always in Trouble for trying to help out.
I live in upstate New York. And it usually takes about a week with standard ground shipping.

I would warn against using general mail delivery if you are banking on it arriving next week.
Even if you order "today", you are hoping it takes exactly 1 week to arrive. If it doesn't, you'll have to pay for the hotel to ship it to you in AU.
I would strongly recommend that you pay extra $ now to get 2-3 business day shipping to NY. If it arrives early, the hotel will just hold it for your dad. (Note the 2-3 business days could be Monday/Tuesday of next week.)
If you gamble on regular mail, you might regret it.

for the extra couple of bucks, at least you KNOW you'll be getting the package.
Ok Thanks for the tips..
My dad's in London and will be in NY on the 15th to the 18th of June.
Would the hotel hold it for a few days? even though he may not have checked in yet? I guess that was my major issue because I'll get 2-3 day delivery and just get the hotel to hold it for me..
Thanks for the help
We're getting into speculation here, but I don't see why a reputable hotel wouldn't hold a parcel for a guest who will arrive later on.
I would simply call the hotel to confirm, and go from there. I can't see it being a problem. I'd much rather the parcel arrive early then too late.
I will check to confirm, my dad is a seasoned traveller and has had issues in the past with the hotels in the U.S not holding packages for security reasons generally since 9/11.
That's what he's been told several times from the front desks but I guess each hotel is different so I'll give them a call.
Thanks for the help.
Hope the hotel cooperates, and good luck with the delivery!
PLEASE do not PM me and immediately go offline :p
Thanks.. I'm seeing a large bulk order of parts happening very soonOriginally Posted by SirSlash4x4
been there, done that (or at least tried to)
In one attempt, local parcel took 2 wks to arrive instead of 2 days
by which time my contact had long arrived back in Oz.
And if you try to ship it "closer" to the TH depot, if its same state
you may get stung with 7-15% VAT or Sales Tax whatever they call it.
to be brutally honest... even the biggest parcel *I* can think of ordering,
difference between the 'expedited' US delivery vs std airmail to Melbourne
probably would be max savings of about $50.
Add that to the risk of loss etc etc having 3rd parties involved... do your sums!
