In my observations of people complaining of RC cars that are RTR or kit is annoying. I may sound ignorant to the veterans, but really?, RC bloomed after many companies started making RTR's to get "STARTED." Would you just want RC's to yourselves or something? Why not make the RC population grow so it can be fun and competitive with others with RC's. I do miss the fact that when building a kit, you can learn from it. I have built many RC's too, but with our knowledge of building it, I'm sure many has a general idea of how all of these RC's are built. One that I thought was complicated, was tearing down a REVO. The suspension was not on other RC's so I had to get use to it when rebuilding or replacing components on the truck. If kits were still being made, not many innovations would have occurred. It would probably just be plain jane and basic RC's. Just be thankful how RC's are now. For example, look at the Slash 4x4. Innovation!! Selling many RTR's before allowed them to achieve funds for R&D for "innovation."
Just had to rant.
and yes, I feel much better now.
hate when I spend $, but love to build and run it.
I think its more selection then anything. The general complaint I read out of the posts is that there should be an kit AVAILABLE as well as the RTR for thoes who already have electronics/motors/tx/rx ect.
This generaly lowers the costs for thoes who are already more experianced, or, want the vehicle, but who enjoy the time spent building it first.
I dont think they mean they should only be released as kits instead
Just pull off the rtr stuff/replace with your stuff you already have, and voila... instant spares for you , or gifts for your less fortunate friends.
That's what I do... Part of the hobby is helping out your buddies
2 Slash 4x4's, B/L Rusty, and a Crawler

exactly. They also sell their equipment with RC's too to aid in sells for their parts. Sometimes people don't buy their stuff so they add it to their RC's to sell it. i.e. batteries.

how exactly is making a slash 4 wheel drive innovative ? if ya ask me it seems more like smart marketing to have people repurchase a truck they already have.
to me, innovation would be creating a modular chassis/bulk/driveline system for the end user to create the vehicle of their choice. that's innovation.
In my opinion people are just complaining because they want something that is not available. These people think for some reason that Traxxas should give everything to everyone in terms of whatever those people want.
Let's be happy with what's available(which is a whole heck of a lot). If something doesn't exist, then maybe it will in the future or maybe it won't.
But, in my opinion if you';re complaining only cuz there isn't a roller and you don't want to buy stuff you already have....etc, then I have this to say. "Buy it or don't it's your choice. But be thankful that you have thse choices."
Some people want a roller, some want a Bind-N-Drive system, some people want it with a clear body, some people want this, some people want that....etc. You can't please everyone.

Anyways, at the end of the day this is a hobby and hobbies should be fun. Now let's go drive one of the 3 or 4 vehicles each of us owns.
When talking in terms of Pure Sales, building RTR's is what has made Traxxas the #1 co in the RC industry. Believe me, when I stated building my first kits back in the 80's this was not the case. Traxxas was barely a blip on the Radar screen back then. However by changing their Business Model and becoming the RTR specialist it has allowed them to grow to a very large co, and in the meantime they have practically invented half of the classes that we all love. The T-Maxx brought us the Monster Trucks, the Revo redefined a Racing Monster Truck & the Slash gave us the SC trucks.
Don't get me wrong, I love building the kits, however it just annoys me to no end to see 10 different Threads in here all about the same thing. People whining about wanting a roller, or wanting a kit. By now we should all know that is not what Traxxas is all about and just accept it. I for one am glad they have become such a large co. that they can sit around and dream up things like the T-Maxx, Revo, Slash and now the Slash4x4.
Savage-Modified!, E-Revo VXL, Slash 2wd, Mini-T
if you really just want a roller, just get the parts list, and but the parts seperately using just want you don't have, and voila, a roller
"I am a Martial Artist"
Mich sport karate circuit
Racers want rollers, and that will never change.
Ya can't polish fertilizer...
Quite frankly if you want a roller, but a whole truck and sell off what you don't need. If you do then right when the truck is released you can quite a bit out of stuff you don't want. If I can make a living that this then you can atleast recoup some of your funds back. Just by selling off the electronics you should get your "roller" under 200 bucks
i.e. the Summit. When it was first released eBay was flooded with summits being stripped down. Now you can't find 1/10 of what was on there. I used to be able to sell 2 a week now 1 every 3 months. I was going to hold off on the Slash 4x4. With the demand for a roller it seems I am going to make the roller aviliable as soon as I can get me hands on a case of Slash 4x4s.
Pay It Forward.
Just like the post above says... If people really want a roller, They will be available on ebay even before they have been stripped of their parts. But with the want for a roller so high... i am sure the price will not be worth just buying the Slash 4x4 yourself and selling the parts on it to make back some cash.
Exactly. Those who want rollers arent newbies and have already started in RCs and want something cheaper if they already have some of the parts they need.Originally Posted by ChuckDeez
