I wonder if there's a flat pack you can make that would work as well?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it but if you can upgrade it, break it.

I have some duracell rechargable able batterys laying around the house, if I use them, could I charge them with my duratrax pluse charger?
    http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...9&I=LXUF43&P=K
would I have to use the slow charge, or could they be peak charged? (sorry not up on all the battery charging stuff yet...)

and also, I like the ideal of mounting the charge jack, but can't you just splice into the wire's coming from the battery conectors (that red and black wire), and solder them there? It would keep from damaging the circuit board with a bad solder job...

Your duracell rechargables should work alright but I don't know about your charger, I have no experience with it. It would need to be set to 8 cells and 9.6 volts. I don't think the duracells could take a real fast charge, you would have to be careful with that.

Remember that the battery pack can be used as a charging tray as you said you must always make sure that your radio is off. It is possible to desolder things on the board so if you are not really handy with a soldering iron I would not try the mod. The mod is a nice feature but going on the tray would do the job as well and you can easily use that charger with no problems.

I'm new to this, so I apologize for not knowing the answer...couldn't you use a connector like the Rx pack and jsut use your charger for the Rx?

When I bought my T-Maxx it came with a charger that does the Rx as well as the remote starter...couldn't it also do the Tx with this mod???
If Mr. Rogers doesn't say it...don't type it.

hmm.. I really can't answer that, maybe someone with a bit more experience with batteries and chargers will chime in.

I don't think that would be a good idea. The charger for the rx is designed to charge a 4-5 cell 4.8-6 volt pack. The tx charger is designed to charge 8 cells at 9.6 volts.

If you go on the battery tray and you are charging and you accidentally flip the radio on you get the voltage from the batteries and the charger going into the radio and will possibly do damage to the radio. When you do it my way and you flip on the radio it blocks out the charger (the light on my charger goes out) and I have never damaged my radio doing this.

Those are the same batteries that I use cooleocool. They work great. That charger looks fine too. You just have to get the female end or charge jack to install in the radio if you don't already have one sitting around.

This just goes to show you how often people actually look at the stickied threads!

Anyway, thanks! I was thinking about getting them for a digital radio I have (already has a charge plug installed) and I saw you using those, so I thought that I'd ask!

with my spektrum radio, if i use rechargeble batts (9.6v) the range is only about 50-100 metres if that. if i use disposable batts (12v) the range is like 500 metres or something crazy like that. its much better, plus they seem to last forever. the spektrum has a readout that tells you the batt voltage.

Couldn't you just add another 2 rechargable "AA"s to bump the voltage back up to 12v? It would boast your range and give you longer run times between charges...

    I guess thats a more in-depth mod....

If I ever switch to rechargeables I'll try that out, if anyone else has done this, you should post it!

thats kinda impossible unless you make your own custom battery box, which would be very bulky, otherwise you will just have 2 AA batteries somewhere outside of the remote. nice thinking though

TQ Modification, Charging made easy ( Lots of Pics)

I was thinking about doing this mod to my transmitter because those are the only batteries I have left that arent rechargable.

So my question is can I get two packs of these batteries...
    http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...8&I=LXKYC8&P=K

And charge them with this charger through my TQ...

    Will this work?

You could get a 2 "AA" battery box and mount it to the outside, there is a lot of room right above the battery box that you could mount it on...it would be outside, yes...but you could seal it up with a nice project box and some silicon

I guess it all depends on just how much modifying you wish to do...

    Still a nice mod tho

Is it ok if I solder the charging jack wires to the battery tray wires? I don't see why not. I don't want to mess with the circuit board and my transmitter has a slightly different layout than yours. I have a soldering iron also.
My Nitro Rustler is faster than yours.

What's wrong with taking out rechargables and putting them in a tray charger? Though it is pretty cool, is all the hassle and risks really worth it?

Well after you do it once "all the hassels and risks" turn into about 10 minutes of work and yes I think the the convenience is definently worth it. Worst case scenario you completely destroy the remote and you get a new one for 20 bucks on ebay.
