Honda Recon 250 ES or Suzuki Ozark 250???

I found a 2002 honda recon ES for 1,900 it looks to be in good shape....and it is about 40 miles from my house...

but my Local dealer has a Brand New 2006 Suzuki Ozark 250 for 3,009 OTD...

I am leaning towards the Honda since i am on a budget and this will be my first Quad and i really like the electric shift instead of the foot pedal...

Any tips from people that have them??? or anybody in general??

and which one would you pick?? thanks....

honda is alot better made bike

i ride a honda and i ride with alot of different bikes

and out of all the bikes in the group ( we ride hard )

the hondas almost always end up pulling some other bike home

( never get a belt drive bike )!!!!!!

well, my friend rides a ozark 250 with a pipe and some gator tires out back and that plain hauls, especially for a 2x4 250, it wants to hang with my blaster 200 speed wise and with all the time i've ridden with him, i've never seen his bike down for any reason, he's usually pulling me on my banshee back if i have an issue

honda, if ES breaks it is VERY expensive
Suzuki, from my experience they are very reliable and we have NEVER had a problem. And where i ride i always end up pulling my friends recon 250 home. i ride Arctic cat, but they are owned by suzuki and have suzuki engines and transmissions on them.

so my vote is for Suzuki

    2 Suzuki

man i still cant decide ... about how much is it when the es breaks?? and you mean the electric shift right ?? or the quad as a whole???

im still leaning to the honda because my mom is going to give me half....

so i have to pay for the rest plus a trailer to haul it with since i dont have a pick up truck... i found a nice one for 400 bucks

    and im 15

Recon X's 1000!! My buddy has a 2000 and it still runs like a top to this day. He has thrown, rolled, jumped, flipped, sank, and plain out abused it and its always ready for more. Starts up right away and is an exremely reliable bike. The only thing he has had to buy for it is new tires!!! Wore those babys down after 7 years of tuff riding.

Since you said that the suzuki will run circles around the honda i thought about some things hard and... i realized

IF i give a 2,000 downpayment on the Ozark..... that will leave me with 1,000 left to pay and i will be able to pay it of in about 1 1/2 years if i pay about 60 bucks a month...

    What do you guys think??

Hmm, 1000 bucks for a new suzuki 250 thats has beat the honda in every shootout since it came out. Then there's the fact that honda had all kinds of issue's with the electric shift when it came out, and unless you know the person who owned the bike, making it "look" like its in good shape is easy. Looks aren't as important as upkeep. If the guy just changed the oil and cleaned the air filter for the first time before he put it up for sale, you'll never know. Not saying that honda's aren't any good, quite the opposite, they have a great reliablity. But in the 250 2wd utility class the zuk is better. Don't be lazy shift with your foot. If you ever want to ride a real fast machine, they don't come with auto anything.

Hey we all have to start somewere. I learned how to ride at work with two different 87's. A 350 Big Bear, and a 225 moto-4. Not fast not particularly good handling, especially compared to whats available now. But rode them alot. Bought an 97 Banshee new as my first bike, now ride a 06 700R Limited Edition. Oh in case it isn't apparent I also am a Yamaha guy.

Check the dealers for trade in's or look around for a nice used one. I got (and sold) my raptor 660 for $3200 2 years ago....I would have ended up getting killed on it. Currently have 2 03 LT160 Suzuki 's, 1 LT80 (technically a LT90 since my over haul and some other goodies) and a 03 Eton Viper 50. Obviously my kidos much affected my atv picks. I do look rather humorous on the lil 50 though .

Honda, I am honda all the way, I drive my unckles honxda fourtrax up in alaska (old with foot shift) and I like it but I new ones with the electronic shifter, you don't have to keep track of what gear you are in all you do is look on the screen.

here are some pics of me on it. really old like 4 years ago

Me on far left and the red 1 in the middle has the electric shifting

Me in the middle and my uncle in the back and his friend in the front

    I want this 1

but I might be able to afford this 1 first, I am only 13

what 1 should I get when I get money?

I would go with Honda. My friend got one for christmas of '05 and we put 2,000 miles on it before christmas of '06. It still runs great to this day, and we treat it like... well, you know. We've had it in water above the seat, mud halfway above the engine, flipped it a few times, pulled numerous people out of the lake-bottom, etc... The only thing we've done to it was new ITP Mud Lites because we thrashed the stock tires.
