The gear mesh is the space between your clutch bell and spur gear. They say the perfect mesh is when you can fit a piece of paper between the two gears.

Yea, you want to be able to put a piece of paper between the gears and have it make marks, but not rip the paper. The mesh is just the spacing between the spur gear and clutch bell.
