upgrades depend on what you are using the truck for, racing, bashing, speed...
aluminum carriers, hollow steel balls, adjustable pushrods and toelinks.
no need to try to fit a full size battery...
you could always go balls to the wall and get an ezrun 60a 8.5t 4000kv and a big-block mounting plate. and the esc will fit, i put my 60a ezrun from my rusty in my merv, massive amount of power.
i had an issue like that rebuilt it a few times but got sick of having to do that, just upgrade to one with metal gears.
i was able to do a front flip by jamming the brakes at very high speeds running a 3s 35c lipo. i would get that thing cookin and hammer the brakes and do a front flip and than hammer the throttle and...

if you go with a lipo battery than i suggest getting some cvd drive shafts
looking for a revo 3.3 in good condition, have $300 to spend.
might be the slipper clutch, my truck did that when i made the jump from nimh to 3cell lipo. i tighten it all the way and then back off 1/4 or a turn.
def get those steel balls.

its very simple to do. there is a screw on each end holding it in place. take out the screws remove the factory tierod/toelink insert the new one, replace screws.
yeah i had to drill out the hole a little to make the screw fit.
i was able to install the hitec hs-85mg and use one of the servo arms it came with, just needed to cut one end for it to fit.
