I'm running the old orange novak evx on a 3906 twin 550 titans with a novak lipo smart stop with 4000 25c 2s lipo's with no problems and have done for around 4 years now.
I still have an older orange novak on a 3906 with a 3905 chassis with twin titan 550's and a newer waterproof evx2 on a 3905 emaxx with a titan 775 and both run the novak smart stop and both run on...
The oven method works awesome just wrap them in aluminium foil and put them in the oven at around 120c to 150c for around 15 minutes.

Iv'e read about the dewalt motor conversion but they are a bit harder to get here in Australia and i already have the 775 in my garage ready to go in with 20/68 gearing.
Team orion make one that is custom fit for merv 1/16 & the erbe 1/10 look on ebay search for team orion lipo you should find them
I think A-main stock them as well
