    esc internal BECs are generally insufficient...

    esc internal BECs are generally insufficient because they are made small to decrease the footprint of the esc.... thus the need for an external in some cases.

    don't cut, just push the contacts out and unsolder it, saves you from having to re-tin the wire and shortening your wire.
