That is just how it is set from the factory. If you want it tighter, you can shim it like you did, or use our stiffer (black) spring which is what we recomend for metal geared servos.

Here's a tip- Try heating the foams up with a hairdryer. They will regain their shape. Don't go overboard though, just warming them should do the trick.
