Interesting build, looking good so far.
If I could throw out a few additional thoughts.
Turning better to the right:
Although the offset rudder will have some affect on this the main reason for the boat turning better to the right is...
The pitch on the 442 and 445 are not actually the same. They are the same pitch factor.
The first number 4, represents a factor of 1.4, the second number is the prop diameter in mm. (if the first...
PowerDemon has proposed a great solution, it allows for 4S, 5S, or 6S setups.
It is EXTREMELY important to match your batteries exactly if you are going to mix and match.
They have to be the...
This is not my experience. My batteries were always very close to equal residual "at rest" voltage after running. I would suggest some additional investigation into this would be worthwhile.
Very interesting and innovative stuffing tube mod.
Will be interested to hear feedback on it works out.
What size prop you running?
Owners manual is available on Traxxas website as a PDF download. (not here in forums)
Go to the home page and under the products/Spartan section you can find the owners manual.
Interesting that it fit.
They make cooling jackets specifically for Castle finned motors.
But hey, if it works, that's awesome. Always good to know there are workable alternatives.
The post below is a re-post so it doesn't start out directly addressing the question, but the intent is to point out that trim tabs are only part of the equation. Note the paragraph where I mention...
As per ApexPredator, adjust strut a bit negative (down) The owners manual gives details on this. If you find your strut is presently positive (up) just going back to neutral may be enough.
Very unfortunate on your first run. :((
I always taped the hatches on my boats, Helps secure the hatch and water proof as well.
The Spartan hatch is hard to seal at the back due to the "tabs"...
Adding weight should be unnecessary.
If your batteries are already all the way forward, either adjust your strut a wee bit negative (down). The Owners manual details this.
Or, adjust your trim...
On 6S you can attain the claimed 50mph with either the X442 0r 215 prop, with your boat trimmed out properly.
The stock ESC is the main issue with larger props. The Amp rating is borderline for a...
If you are running stock electrics that prop is too big.
For stock electrics it is best to stick with Octura X442 or Prather 215
Orca runs modified electrics in his boat.
That should be all you need, and will work with your stock strut.
I think the biggest I ever ran was an X645 and Prather P225.
Been too long to remember for certain :)
Not sure how much bigger you could go before putting too much strain on the 4082.
No, you will need to order the Collet and prop nut separately. Unless Jeff actually specified he was packaging everything you needed.
You can probably get it out without removing the tray, but it will be a whole lot easier if you do.
The tray is easy to remove and install, and it was one of my favorite features of the Spartan....
If you melted the tray to any degree at all you should replace the tray as well to ensure everything is aligned properly.
Also look for any discoloration, warping, or other damage on the stuffing...
Coming along nicely. Awesome
There are a couple tabs that hold into place and some double sided sticky tape.
Release the tabs and it takes a pretty good pull to release it from the sticky tape.
Depends on how you decide to upgrade.
Some upgrade kits use a different prop shaft on the flex cable (usually 3/16" which is a common size) and will require a different strut.
You can also just...
Yes to all your questions about flex drive.
Upgrade to .187 flex, or .078 wire drive. I ran both with no further drive line problems.
What are your thoughts on a motor mount that will line up properly with the drive on the jet?
