Premium Silicone Shock Oils
All Traxxas models use silicone oil as the damping medium in their shocks. Traxxas oils are carefully manufactured to ensure precise viscosity from batch to batch, so you can be confident the bottle of 30-weight shock oil you purchase today will have exactly the same viscosity as the bottle you bought last year, and the one you buy next season.
Traxxas High Performance Shock Oil is available in seven weights, and the 2 oz. bottles feature twist-open nozzles that pour precisely and close tightly. You can purchase the oils as individual bottles or as a 7-bottle set with carousel. The carousel is also available separately.
Most Traxxas models’ shocks are filled with 30wt fluid from the factory. If you’re uncertain, your model’s manual will specify the oil used. From there, you can go “lighter/thinner” (lower viscosity number) to decrease damping force or “heavier/thicker” (higher number) for more damping force. If you go to a fluid that’s more than ten higher or lower than stock, you’ll likely benefit from a set of matching softer or stiffer springs—all the options will be in the parts list for your model. Premium Differential Fluid
All Traxxas 4X4 models and all trucks with 4s, 6s, and 8s power systems use grease or silicone oil inside their sealed differentials to control diff action. We all think of a slippery liquid when the topic is oil, but as model size, power, and weight go up, thicker differential fluid is required to prevent unloading, and the silicone oil used in differentials can be so highly viscous (“thick”) that it behaves more like syrup. The thickest Traxxas differential fluid is reserved for the largest and heaviest trucks such as X-Maxx and XRT. This stuff has an astonishing viscosity of 20,000,000 and is closer to putty than what anyone would think of as “oil.”
The #5136X Differential oil set includes 10,000, 30,000, and 50,000 wt oils. Traxxas’ thickest fluid is 20,000,000 wt, and is used in the Torque Biasing Center Drive of Traxxas 6S- and 8S-powered models.

Marine Grease #5748
Traxxas Marine Grease is the only grease you should ever use to lubricate the flex drive of the Traxxas Spartan and DCB M41 Widebody boats. Marine greases in general are
formulated to inhibit corrosion and resist washing away when exposed to water, and Traxxas marine grease is further specialized as a drive-cable lubricant to ensure the flex-drive system operates with peak efficiently and reliability. Premium Grease #5041
Premium Grease is formulated to ensure maximum efficiency and service life for the metal drivetrain gears in high-torque applications. Premium Grease is the factory lubricant for Traxxas TRX-4 and TRX-6 models, as well as X-Maxx, XRT, and E-Revo VXL Brushless. Silicone Grease #1647
Silicone grease is a good all-purpose lubricant for molded parts and is an effective corrosion inhibitor, but it’s not a good choice for metal-on-metal applications. In Traxxas models, silicone grease is used as a seal lubricant to ensure receiver box watertightness. It can also be used to restore and condition the silicone boots used on Traxxas boat’s rudder linkages and the Revo-series’ driveshaft and suspension pivot bellows. White Lithium Grease #1548
Lithium grease formulations are best for metal-on-metal lubrication. It should not be used for lubricating plastic or composite parts, as the lithium may attack these materials over time. Traxxas white lithium grease is a good lubricant for metal bushings supporting metal shafts, as found in the XL-5 Slash, Stampede, Rustler, and Bandit models. It can also be used on the metal gears these models as well as their VXL counterparts, but the best grease for these gears is our next selection … Thrust Bearing Grease #2717
Traxxas thrust bearing grease gets its black color from the molybdenum disulphide blended into it. This material gives “black moly” greases excellent high-load, high-pressure lubrication performance. The #2717 formulation is ideal for lubricating the metal gears of the Magnum-series transmissions that equip XL-5 and VXL Rustler, Bandit, Stampede, and Slash models, including the Drag Slash. It’s also a good choice for the metal gears in TRX-4 and TRX-6 models. You Don’t Need Much Grease—Unless It’s the Diff
When you disassemble a Traxxas transmission, you’ll find the gears are only lightly coated in grease. Adding more grease than is required to provide the gears with a lubricating film won’t “increase lubrication,” it will only make a mess inside the gearbox. When assembling a Traxxas kit model, you’ll see the instructions only call for a drop of grease, which will be distributed as the gears turn. There’s no need to overdo it. The exception to this rule is the planetary gears inside Magnum transmission used by XL5-series 2WD models. Give the sun and planetary gears and the planetary shafts a thick coating of grease, as the small gears work very hard. The close confines of the differential case will keep the grease circulating through the gear meshes.
