Traxxas Makes X Games Debut With
Rallycross Racer Liam Doran
As the defending X Games 17 Rally champion, 25-year old Liam Doran was feeling the pressure to put his Traxxas-sponsored Citroën on the podium at X Games 18. Liam stalled his car at the start of his heat, forcing him to play catch up for the first two laps. He battled his way past Ken Block to the move all the way to second, but got a flat that returned him to the back of the pack.
The Last Chance Qualifier was Liam’s final chance to make the big show, and he rose to the challenge by taking the lead on green and staying out front all the way to the checkers, securing a position on row three of the grid for the finals. The one-lane course offered no real room to pass, so starting in the third row was going to make it even more difficult to get to the front in time. With skilled and aggressive moves that made for great TV, Liam battled Rhys Millen from turn to turn. Rhys was able to make one final pass to earn fourth place, as Liam followed across the line in fifth.
“Fifth place was not where I wanted to be at the end of the race, but I think on such a narrow one-line course, making as many passes as I did in order to work my way up to a top-5 finish says a lot,” Liam told Traxxas. “I drove a great race and I definitely had a lot of fun in my Monster Energy Traxxas Citroën, working my way into the finals here at X Games 18.”
