Traxxas Supercross riders Darryn
Durham and Blake Baggett finish Top 5
Luckily for fans and riders alike, Monster Energy Supercross was back in a domed stadium on St. Patrick’s Day after a rain soaked Daytona weekend. The top five riders in the East Lites points standings are locked in a tight battle. The door is now open for a shift in the East Lites standings and for a new face to taste a Monster Supercross victory. Villopoto’s winning streak in Supercross was finally broken last week by James Stewart. What more could you want from the 11th round of Monster Energy Supercross at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis?
Traxxas own Darryn Durham is in hot pursuit of Justin Barcia in the East Lites standings. Durham and Barcia both won their respective heats, showing why they are the top two riders to contend with. The main event, however, scrambled up the points chase even more. A down rider caused the race to be stopped while the Asterisk Medical Crew got him safely removed from the track. The race was restarted using a series-first single file staggered restart. The field was reshuffled after leader Ken Roczen went down. Blake Wharton slipped by for the win, his first since 2009. Traxxas’ Darryn Durham finished a strong second place, moving him closer to Justin Barcia’s points total. Barcia only managed a third place finish. One misstep by points-leader Barcia could put Durham on top for the season. Both Traxxas riders wound up in the top five after Traxxas’ Blake Baggett finished fourth.
Traxxas’ Broc Tickle had a strong run early on finishing his heat in fourth place. Ryan Villopoto had to fight to the front in the main event after starting in sixth place. Much to the competition’s dismay, Villopoto climbed his way to the front, eventually taking the lead with only five laps to go. Ryan Villopoto finished off with his sixth win of the season, giving him a lead of over 50 points in the standings. Traxxas’ Broc Tickle finished in the top ten with an eighth place finish in the main.
As usual, Traxxas was on scene with its full line of vehicles on display. Fans were able to test drive a Traxxas Slash on our Try-Me Track, watch our professional RC drivers demonstrate the amazing Traxxas E-Revo, Slash 4X4, and other Traxxas models. Round 11 is in the books and riders who didn’t taste the luck of the Irish will be thirsty for another shot at Monster Energy Supercross victory.
