Johnny Gray gets a shot at the Traxxas
Nitro Shootout!

(06/05/12) The Toyota Supernationals held at Old Bride Township Raceway Park was run this past weekend. Even with the lower temperatures teams that were faced with, competition heated up in the race to the Traxxas Nitro Shootout! Following race nine of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series in New Jersey, The Traxxas Nitro Shootout board remains unchanged in the Top Fuel Category. Funny Car, however, has a new entrant, Johnny Gray.

Johnny Gray had his work cut out for him every round on Sunday. He qualified third and defeated Jim Head in round one. Gray then took down Traxxas drivers John Force and Robert Hight in rounds two and three, respectively. In the final round of the Toyota Supernationals, Johnny took down Ron Capps. In his fourth consecutive final appearance, Ron didn’t have enough car to make it down the track faster that Johnny Gray. We also saw a repeat win in Top Fuel by Steve Torrence this past week in Englishtown. This was only Steve’s second Top Fuel win of his career. Steve Torrence added his name to the Traxxas Nitro Shootout board just a few weeks ago in Atlanta.

With the addition of Johnny Gray to the Funny Car portion of the Traxxas Nitro Shootout board, only one spot remains open that can be earned by winning a race. In Top Fuel, two spots still remain open for event winners to earn.
