John Force Racing adds another name to
the Traxxas Nitro Shootout Board!

Believe it or not, we are already six races into the 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing series! Both Traxxas Nitro Shootout boards could have been nearly full by now, but the John Force Racing and Don Schumacher Racing dominance that has plagued the field in both Funny Car and Top Fuel has not allowed for that to happen.

In Houston, Mike Neff added his name to the list of drivers entered into the Funny Car portion of the Traxxas Nitro Shootout. He joins fellow teammates John Force and Robert Hight, also putting yet another Traxxas sponsored car into the Traxxas Nitro Shootout. Luckily for the competition, there are still four more spots on the board that drivers can win their way into before the U.S. Nationals.

Morgan Lucas grabbed his second win of the season last week at Royal Purple Raceway. Prior to Houston in Top Fuel, only Spencer Massey, Antron Brown, and Morgan Lucas had won a spot on the Traxxas Nitro Shootout board. Don Schumacher’s drivers had taken up four of the five entries with Spencer’s three wins and Antron’s win. Morgan Lucas and Antron Brown squared off in the final, meaning that for another week an extra spot would be left open on the shootout board.

The Traxxas Nitro Shootout is open to the first 7 winners of a NHRA Funny Car or Top Fuel race leading up to the U.S. Nationals. However, the points leader in both categories, if not already qualified in, automatically receives the top seed into the race. The last spot in each class is determined by a fan vote lottery drawing. If there are still positions open on the Traxxas Shootout board, the remaining positions will be filled in order by the highest ranked drivers in the point’s standings that have not won a race.

The Traxxas shootout is a race within a race. The program rewards the top four finishers at the U.S. Nationals held in September. The winner will receive $100,000, runner-up receives $15,000, and semifinalists receive $7,500.

The NHRA quickly heads to Commerce Georgia this week for the Summit Southern Nationals. You can stay up-to-date with the Traxxas Nitro Shootout on,, and the Traxxas Racing Twitter page.
